Heard that jagr already has his mind made up that he's heading back to the KHL

1.) 09 Jul 2017 14:32:11
That would indeed be sad.

2.) 09 Jul 2017 15:50:33
Yep he was one of the best.

3.) 09 Jul 2017 16:41:05
Hope not. I think Habs should offer him a 1 year contract. 3 million.

4.) 09 Jul 2017 16:42:24
Nah. He is going to sign in Calgary today or tomorrow.

5.) 09 Jul 2017 19:00:48

KHL is better option than Calgary.

. nobody likes calgary.

not even calgary.

6.) 09 Jul 2017 21:01:53
Calgary is going to be good!

7.) 09 Jul 2017 21:26:30
Good one TB3.

8.) 09 Jul 2017 21:42:25
I hope Jagr finds a team to play for, I think he could get at least one more year in the NHL before considering the KHL or retirement.

9.) 09 Jul 2017 23:58:40
What's wrong with Calgary?

10.) 10 Jul 2017 12:40:06
Nothing is wrong with them, just Edm fans being salty.

11.) 12 Jul 2017 01:23:02
He'll get signed by an NHL team. Not necessarily right away, but the guy can obviously still play and is an incredible mentor. He could really round out a middle-6 forward group for a contender or soon-to-be contender. I was actually really hoping the Oilers would sign him, in no small part due to the fact that he is my fav player of all time. Unfortunately, the Jokinen signing makes that a very unlikely scenario now. Shame. A Jagr Oilers jersey would have been top of my shopping list right now.

20 Dec 2016 16:25:45
Brendan gallahger and nathan beaulieu to cgy for sam Bennett and t. j brodie.

1.) 20 Dec 2016 18:48:48

-Calgary Flames.

2.) 20 Dec 2016 18:57:27
The difference between Bealieu and Brodie is way more than between Gally and Sam.

3.) 20 Dec 2016 19:29:36
The deal seems pretty reasonable player value wise but why?
Both teams are desperately looking to address their scoring needs.

Calgary with the addition of a top 6 Forward seems to have done this with the trade in attaining Gallagher, but Montreal has not with the deletion of a top 6'er from their lineup and adding of the career 3rd line grinder Bennett ( Yes Redrov he is. accept it already and move on. )

I'd say this is a better deal for Calgary than Montreal as it addresses the team needs in Calgary, but not the team needs in Montreal.

4.) 20 Dec 2016 19:48:36
K99/ FT4A
The value is not even close. Gally >= Bennett, Brodie >>>>>> Bealieu
How can you say a 20 year old that keeps improving his point totals each year in a bad team is a career third liner.
We all know you are a troll poster by now and I don't know if it's just me but I am getting annoyed with your trolls. They were funny the first couple times but not any more. Accept that no one cares about your opinion unless you start posting seriously or move on.

5.) 20 Dec 2016 19:58:15
I can't even be mad anymore, I honestly think he's delusional or just a really consistent troll.

6.) 20 Dec 2016 20:04:11
How is a 20 year old finesse type top draft pick become a career 3rd line grinder already.?
Is he a Jack Eichel? Nope. but he's not a Lars Eller either. .
Give this kid a chance.
As for the trade, I like it for the Habs, would hate to see Gallagher go, but the difference between Brodie and Beaulieu is to much in my oponion. Flames say No.

7.) 20 Dec 2016 21:09:32
Bennett is a careeer 3rd liner just like RNH right k99?

8.) 20 Dec 2016 23:21:33
RNH > Bennett. So.

9.) 21 Dec 2016 16:10:34
No Redrov and Flamer fan alumni. no trolling intentions here. tell it like it is.

Typical Flamer fans. You can all live in denial if you like, wish as hard as you like. but the sooner you accept the facts about Bennett the better. I'm sure Flames Nation has annointed him as a savior and a top 6'er solely based on the WISH that because he was picked #4 he's a legit top 6'er. Well he is not on a real team and really is only and only will be a top 6'er in Calgary where there is only 1 real scoring line at the moment. So Please. your Bennett infatuation / man crush is getting old already. Accept the destiny. and move on. Ain't no impact top 6 forward here. Better luck at this year's draft!

10.) 23 Dec 2016 22:49:44
Bennett a 3rd line grinder?
Whatever he's on, get me some.
Not only is that not the case.
But I bet he surpssses Monahan as a center.
But hey, you tell it like is* as stupid as you think it is.

I got to a feeling habs are asking or going to be asking Carolina about jordan stall.what do you think he's worth right now?

1.) 09 Jul 2017 16:40:10
More than we can afford. but what gives you that feeling?

2.) 09 Jul 2017 21:34:07
Not happening.
Carolina needs veteran centres.

Viktor Rask is young and Lindholm switches from C to RW.

3.) 09 Jul 2017 21:44:44
I don't see Hurricanes trading Jordan Staal yet unless they get a replacement C or have a young one from within to take his place.

4.) 12 Jul 2017 01:25:07
I just think it's a player they could obtain at this point without giving up too much from the current roster. his contract is a little on the high side so his trade value is probably lower then his actual value because of that. also habs have over 9 mil in cap space so they can easily fit him in. As for next year almost 7.5 mil comes off the books from Mitchell and plekanec alone. prices new deal adds 4 mil to next year but it won't be hard to get that under control.

05 Jul 2017 16:50:03
Because of some of my posts not making the cut for some unknown reason I didn't get a chance to reply to draisitl so let's try this again. 25 teams would swap there bottom 6 and goaltending for tampas right now? Have you completely fallen off your rocker? Man your the biggest homer on here. Look I'm not saying bergevin is the best gm ever or that he's a Jedi or anything like that. But he's done a fairly good job for what he had to work with. So has yzerman I guess. I would consider them about equal yzerman has made some horrible deals which are probably worse then anything bergevin has done.sure he has made a couple good signings but he has an advantage in that department.you always talk about the job he has done keeping the core together but really what has that core done lately. Kucherov has been great the others not so much.so maybe it would have been a good idea to probably let a couple of them leave so they could keep an up and coming talent like drouin.instead they traded him for a dman who wasn't nearly as good last season as he was in his draft yeAr.but anyways in closing from the top to bottom I would take the habs roster any day of the week.you can have your lighting and your man crush on Stevie

1.) 05 Jul 2017 20:39:38
I'd trade Andersson for Vais in a heart beat him Murray and Gibson are the up and coming goalies of the NHL. Vais reminds me of a slightly better Tukka Rask for his age. Absolutely amazingly fast and fluid movement.

2.) 05 Jul 2017 20:40:28
Yeah Hedman wasn't a Norris candidate or anything. Price is the only reason anyone would ever want Montreals roster over Tampa's. But even then it's not close IMO.

3.) 05 Jul 2017 20:58:32
I'd be content with anderson. Vasilievsky hasn't shown me anything yet. Maybe someday he will be a top 5 goalie in the league but he isn't there yet regardless of what drasitil thinks.

4.) 06 Jul 2017 00:29:35
Yeah your right ebsolutely hedman is a beast. But please explain what anyone else on Tampa has done besides him and kucherov in the last 2 seasons. plus subban won a Norris in montreal and everyone said he sucked till they traded him.

5.) 06 Jul 2017 00:36:09
Vasi was great once he actually had the #1 job last year. Top 5 in the league? No. But probably in the upper half of starters kinda middle of the pack and he's going to be 23 for the next season. Tampa has a lot of bottom 6 depth. Not like they did last year but still solid. Every GM has made bad moves. Hell Yzerman just signed Girardi. But ill take it over trading PK for Weber and a bunch of picks and prospects for bottom 6 forwards at the deadline. Montreal has 3 3rd lines that's their real issue and he's never addressed it. D doesn't look great right now either tbh. don't know why he traded Beauleau when he's probably top 4 on that team right now.

6.) 06 Jul 2017 04:36:19
Beaulieaus attitude was a big reason why he was shipped out that combined with the fact Vegas was probably going to claim him anyway. but having the better of the young guys signed to one way deals in which they would have to clear waivers to be sent down and being able to protect everyone else of value. berg done a great job considering Vegas was pretty much stuck with picking emelin. and he didn't have to give up anything for them to do so like a lot of teams did.3 3rd lines is a bit of a bs statement they can put together a couple decent 2nd lines they are lacking a true number one center and probably a top 6 right winger would help too but they are decent overall in the forward department. I still think they can ice a solid top 4 on d as we'll. and price if he's not injured will be among the top 5 goalies in the league. there appears to be some holes in certain ares but they won the division again last year so IMO the only real thing they lost of any value was radulov and they added drouin which essentially replaces him so they should be at least close to the caliber they were last year even with the current lineup.

7.) 06 Jul 2017 12:51:40
Beaulieu gets shipped out because they were going to lose him for nothing as you say, right? Okay so because of that they lost both Emelin and Beaulieu for only a third. Sounds like terrible decision making to me.

8.) 06 Jul 2017 15:54:43
Mcrazzle it was worth losing beaulieu just to get rid of emelin. So the 3rd was a bonus. Did you even see what Vegas got for emelin? A5th rd pick after they retained like 1.3 mil of his cap hit. Try and keep up with the current nhl before commenting.

03 Jul 2017 05:52:50
Is there a team in a worse cap situation then Washington right now?

1.) 03 Jul 2017 08:09:59
Habs are on a good way. 8-9 more years of Price and Weber at more than 18m with both entering the wrong side of 30.

2.) 03 Jul 2017 16:58:34
Chicago is up there and LA on the surface.

3.) 03 Jul 2017 20:52:50
Chicago is up there for sure, Habs are getting there quickly. I think Edmonton might be there after McD and Drais sign.

4.) 03 Jul 2017 21:23:14
Yeah we'll as we saw again today with radulov leaving montreal has to dish out more money to cover the much higher taxes. Most be good to be running a team in the usa.

5.) 03 Jul 2017 21:25:44
And draisi I still think the habs are in better shape then tampa.

6.) 04 Jul 2017 00:59:00
Habs are definitely not in a better spot than Tampa. Tampa has Stamkos and Hedman signed reasonably long term and their big mistake contracts (Callahan) will be up/ almost over when they need to resign Kuch and Vasi. Can trade em or buy em out.

And Radulov leaving had nothing to do with USA/ Canada taxes. They can help but Bergevin didn't even match Dallas offer until it was accepted. It was too late. Montreal should just stop trying to play hardball if they don't wanna risk the player going elsewhere.

7.) 04 Jul 2017 01:38:55
Tampa still has a couple guys they need signed and just look ahead to next year with what you think those guys will be making and then get back to me. And actually it's being reported now that montreal offered the same deal as Dallas two days ago.

8.) 04 Jul 2017 01:47:35
There is also a report that radulov will put 1.1 mil more in his pocket by signing in dallas compared to the same contract if he played in montreal. so ask yourself does the taxes make a difference and then get back to me on that one too.

9.) 04 Jul 2017 02:01:05
Ya Bergevin and his 1 steo forward. 3 steps back approach is going to ruin this team.

10.) 04 Jul 2017 04:41:34
Honestly, the whole tax thing is way overstated. The difference isn't really that much, nothing more than a few percentage points. Fun fact: the US federal top income tax bracket is about 20% higher than the highest Canadian bracket (39% against approximately 33%) . Where Canada differs significantly is in provincial income taxes, but they aren't terribly huge, and I think some US states have them as well, though I'm not 100% certain on which and how much they are.

I'd write up an example, but I don't feel like it now. Go ahead and look into it yourselves if you want to or don't believe me.

Another thing to consider is purchasing power. All players are paid in US dollars, but of course the ones in Canada buy things in Canadian dollars. So, you can say those in Canada earn significantly more than the ones in the states because of the exchange rate. But that's an equally weak argument because things are generally more expensive in Canada, even with the exchange rate taken into account, and the exchange rate is always changing.

Anyway, I'm done arguing with myself. You get the idea.

11.) 04 Jul 2017 04:54:30
Tampa has like 15 mill in space right now for Johnson and Palat. they'll get around 10 combined. So they are in a decent cap situation. No big resignings next until Kuch and Vasi 2 years from now. Coburn Girardi Stralman deals all up then. Cally in a buyoutable last season. They're fine. Montreal has Patches who will need a big raise right away and they may not be able to afford it. that's why they lost Radulov. Had to choose two or Radulov Galchenyuk and maybe Markov. I really don't see how Tampas in a worse spot even if Johnson and Palat get 12 combined.

12.) 04 Jul 2017 06:00:49
Yeah after doing the calculation myself the report of 1.1 mil extra a year seems a bit off the difference is only about half that. But that still means about 2.6 mil extra in his pocket over the course of the contract.

13.) 04 Jul 2017 06:08:54
With regards to the payroll thing assuming galchenyuk signs for around 5 mil montreal should have around 17 mil in cap space next year with 15 players under contract. Tampa on the other hand assuming palat and Johnson both sign for 10 mil combined tampa will have around 14 mil left with only 14 players under contract. so eventhough neither team are in cap trouble I would think montreal in the short term is stil in better shape. And anything can happen in 3 years. don't really wanna argue about it or really care one way or the other. My initial comment about this was only to say something back to drais for his usual snippy remark about the habs. that guy never changes. Oh yeah and yzerman is the best gm ever.

14.) 04 Jul 2017 06:33:05
Wow, who was it that reported a 1.1 mil per year difference? Hopefully it wasn't someone credible, because that's definitely way off.

Another thing to consider is that municipal property taxes tend to also be significantly higher than those in Canada, and not surprisingly, the areas with higher property taxes are in those states with low to no income tax, but that of course never gets said by the media. Obviously, that only matters if you own property, but whatever. What I'm getting at is that the "mainstream" idea that people in the States pay significantly less tax is not necessarily true, and definitely not as impactful as is often made out to be because there are so many more layers to it.

15.) 04 Jul 2017 07:04:30
But when being compared to taxes in Quebec there is a significant difference. Most property taxes only come into effect if the person builds a home there or buys a home there. Actual taxes which are taken from your income are considerably higher in canada then in a lot of states. And even more so in Quebec.

16.) 04 Jul 2017 07:58:54
Well I'd say their cap situations right now are about even, neither is super critical up against the cap.
But here is the two things in favour of TB, imo:

1. We don't have those big long term deals that take players waaaay into the wrong side of their 30s, which Montreal has two of in Weber and now Price.
2. TB has obviouly the better roster compared to Montreal and also young cost-controlled, but effective players coming thru the system for the next years.

As jbs said, TB is just fine, Palat and Johnson will easily fit under the cap for this year. And while it is true that TB has 14m left with 14 players signed for next year, you got to see that this includes almost ALL key players. They have 4 D + Koekkoek and Dotchin + Sergachev who will all cost around 1m per that year, most likely. This makes it 2G + 7 D + 8 F with 11m left. This leaves 11m for 1 top 6 and 3 bottom 6 Fs. IThis could for example be Namestnikov, Brown, Kunitz, Paquette. Those combined are def below 11m, so again, TB is just fine for 18/ 19 either.

17.) 04 Jul 2017 08:04:42
Totally agree on the Quebec side. They (I think) have the highest taxes in the country, and probably the continent. But, as you know, the world does not revolve around Quebec, and I'm making more of a general US v. Canada comment, since by far the most significant tax on income comes at the federal level.

Also, you'll notice that I had said that property taxes only matter if you own property (it'd be pretty stupid if you're taxed on property you don't own, right? ) . I also don't know the tendency of players to actually buy houses in the city they play in as opposed to renting, but I doubt any of us know that. The reason for mentioning property tax is because it's a potentially significant tax difference that never gets mentioned in the "US people pay less tax than Canadian" conversation.

Essentially, what I 'm getting at is that there is far more to this nonsensical tax conversation than the federal + provincial/ state income tax rate comparison (which is usually less than what most people assume it to be) . There's honestly enough content here to write a book on the topic.

09 Nov 2016 07:05:11
Is patrik laine the new calder trophy leader? He could quite possibly be the only 50 goal scorer this season.

1.) 09 Nov 2016 10:51:17
At this point yeah but he's shooting at a 25% shooting% right now. Would be shocked if he was able to maintain that.

2.) 09 Nov 2016 12:38:17
I would say Laine and marner are 1 and 2.

3.) 10 Nov 2016 14:15:30
Werenski being a ppg dman under 20 is quite frankly amazing as well. I'd put him in immediate contention right now as he's carrying the Jackets.

4.) 10 Nov 2016 20:45:33
Werenski and Laine. But agree with what CX said100%.

5.) 11 Nov 2016 12:44:17
My top 3 in order at this moment would be:
1. Laine (without question)
2. Werenski
3. Nylander

Mind you, I haven't paid a ton of attention to rookie output throughout the league so far this season but those are the 3 that stand out to me most thus far. Laine is far and beyond #1, that kid is just plain destroying so far. Zero chance that he will match Selanne's rookie season goals but the fact that we are around 15 games in and he's STILL on pace to match it is ridiculous.

28 Oct 2016 02:05:10
Man I wish tampa would hurry up trade bishop out west.

1.) 28 Oct 2016 11:59:57
Yeah. Especially to a team that needs him that can score goals.

2.) 28 Oct 2016 18:00:36
As soon as I wrote this last night the habs started scoring lol. Montreal has a tough time scoring on him.

3.) 28 Oct 2016 19:22:39
Hes a good goalie for sure. i think Tampa should do it sooner thab later. They are already strong contenders. i don't see Vasilevsky as a down grade, but they need to play him. they could get the one or 2 peices that will vault them passed Penguins and Caps. . and yes Habs won last night. but. Still not ready to put them in category with other 3. close. see what's goig kn in January to see if they are real deal.

4.) 29 Oct 2016 15:54:56
Sosa the most unbiased person on here. Respect.

5.) 29 Oct 2016 19:14:51

Sosa we'll they do have a guy named victor mete who outplayed vancouvers 5th overall choice from last year. simon bourque Brett Lernout Arvid hendrikson nick koberstien plus the 4 defenseman they drafted this year just to name a few. probably no drew doughty in the bunch but I think it's safe to assume at least a couple of those guys will slot into the future top six. mete and juulsen both have potential to be top 4 IMO at this point I would say mete is probably slightly better.

It's not the only argument bjustad has never really had a good season yet and since his best year he has declined for the last 2 seasons. I don't think at this time it would be a good idea for any team to take on his contract if they have to give up some decent picks and prospects. Too much actual potential being give up by montreal in this trade to justify the risk or cap hit.
