TOR: Marner (3 x $10.9M left)
WPG: Wheeler (2 x $8.25)

My thinking here is that WPG gets younger and more skillful at RW along with new leadership for the next couple of years to make a Stanley Cup push. Especially with the future of PLD, Scheiefele, and Helly up in the air (all FA after 2 years). After 2 years, they'd still have a core of Ehlers, Connor, and Marner on the wings. Of course, WPG still needs to trade D-man to shed cap and make room anyways (If they are able to trade a combo of Schmidt, Dillon, Demelo, and Stanley, that would dump $6M to $9M)

For TOR, this sheds $2.65M per year in cap space while also bringing in a productive middle 6 winger who can bring in new leadership. It also gets a heavy contract off the books just in time to sign Matthew's long-term.

I don't think a sweetener would be needed because of the cap space this trade provides the Leafs both now and in the future.

WPG Top 6:
Connor - PLD - Ehlers
Perfetti - Scheifele - Marner

Somehow I don't see Toronto doing this to save $2.65 mil.

Maybe for Wheeler 50% retained, but TOR still says no and just moves Kerfoot out to sign Phil Kessel @$3.5mil or less to have both Kessel & Marner:

Nylander-Matthews-Marner
Bunting-Tavares-Kessel.

Probably the dumbest post I’ve seen in my life.

The Jets would make this trade in a second. The Leafs would never do it.

Why would the Jets want Romonav or Anderson?
They have plenty of W. They would need C in return, so Anderson doesn't make sense.
They can't even fit Heinola and Samburg in their lineup, so why would they trade for another young defenseman? If they did, they'd have to trade 3 guys out to make room. That's a lot of moving pieces.

The first trade is not nearly enough. Why would the Jets trade PLD for a young defenseman when they can't even fit 2 of their own into a lineup and then for a third liner? A trade for PLD has to involve Suzuki, Caufeild or the 1.01.

I like the second trade but I think a mid round pick instead of Erne gets it done. The Jets don't need Erne.
