1.) 05 Aug 2022 18:45:57
I wonder if TOR's RW/ LW Wayne Simmonds would be a Good Reclamation Project for CGY if signing Virtanen doesn't pan out.

2.) 05 Aug 2022 19:01:20
Forgot about Kylington, it's like he's already gone in my mind lol

Kylington to be shipped to BUF FOR Peyton Krebs or a couple 2nd Round Picks OR to ARI with Zadorov + Zary + a 1st FOR Chychrun + Jack McBain.

3.) 05 Aug 2022 19:03:51
I dunno TrevorA.
Simmonds has really lost a step. At his age, I dont see any improvement coming. However, Sutter is the coach, so it may be possible ( I'm a Huge Sutter fan, my favorite Flame) .
If you can get Simmonds at the league minimum, it isn't the worst thing.

4.) 05 Aug 2022 19:23:07
Sutter loves his Veterans! At $900k/ UFA2023, there's no risk, he can be Waived or Buried. TOR has been using him as a 4th Line Checker, but he could compete with Lewis for the 3RW spot beside Backlund & Coleman or Dube. He Brings Grit & Physicality and a Good Shot. Might get back to contributing 0.35-0.50PPG or at least what Lucic offers but at 17% of the cost.

5.) 05 Aug 2022 21:10:31
Ya Trevor . All good points. Why not! . If they could bring both him and Virtanen. both at 900.

6.) 05 Aug 2022 21:45:29
Simmonds is terrible, he's not even much of a fighter/ enforcer even thought that's what he's paid to do/ be.

7.) 05 Aug 2022 23:06:35
You can't really believe either Buffalo or Arizona would do those deals.

8.) 06 Aug 2022 02:07:27
Kylington = mid-1st and Krebs value has slipped

My offer to ARI is Three 1sts + a 2nd/ 3rd

So yeah, they’re definitely believable.

9.) 08 Aug 2022 04:40:50
I've been thinking about this one for a while. I don't like it.

I wouldn't mind Carlo but Hanifin is worth a fair bit more than him. I wouldn't mind Smith either but he's UFA after next year so adding him doesn't make much difference.

Calgary doesn't need Forbert or Zboril. They'd just be 2 more surplus defensemen on a team that already has too many defensemen. Neither of them is worth trading Valimaki for.

Adding Looch and Smith leaves the return a bit lacking for Calgary. Calgary doesn't have to move looch now, his cap hit off the books next year and Boston can't afford to take on Looch's full cap hit anyhow. If Boston wants to do that with Calgary retaining salary on Looch Boston would have to add more than just Smith.

I don't see a player on their roster that would work for both teams so that leaves a pick or prospect. A 2nd isn't quite enough for Calgary and a first is a bit too much for Boston so maybe add Valimaki and Boston's 2023 first round pick.

Hanifin + Valimaki + looch with 50% retention on Looch

Carlo + Smith + Boston's 2023 first (lottery protected)

10.) 09 Aug 2022 03:03:23
Valimaki hasn’t worked out, so try Zboril instead

Flames need a 2C/ RW, so try Craig Smith and if he works out, look to re-sign him

Forbort is a Shut Down Penalty Killing D-Man perfect for 3LD. He’s a Veteran and at 30 should be in his prime playing days

Kylington would be Traded as well, so that leaves Mackey & Zboril competing for the 7th position

Gotta give to get and once we sign Weegar @6.5, do we really need Hanifin!? I think Carlo would become more useful to us once Weegar takes over 1LD.

05 Aug 2022 04:33:55
NJD's R.Graves@3.17/UFA23 + F.Zetterlund@RFA22 + A.Johnson@3.4/UFA23 FOR
CGY's LD-N.Hanifin@4.95/UFA24 + D-J.Valimaki@1.55/RFA23 + 3rd RD Pick

NJD Upgrades on Defence and opens up a position for Tyce Thompson/CGY Fills 3 Positions and if Graves doesn't re-sign, the 2023 Free Agency Market looks Good + they have Mackey

(still looking to move Monahan & Lucic + sign Stastny & J.Larsson)

1.) 05 Aug 2022 17:15:19
Monahan have a NTC or NMC? If not maybe PHX is an option. Depending on how much you're willing to give up you may be able to get Chyrchun from them as I believe I read that he's pretty well fed up with being in the desert. PHX may take you to the cleaners though to take Monahan's contract.

2.) 05 Aug 2022 17:55:59
NTC, 10 team IIRC.

3.) 05 Aug 2022 18:10:34
10 Team NTL for Mony leaves 22 Teams CGY can Trade him too, but yeah, got to figure that one out. No idea if he can return to form for us at 2C

Lucic will be going to BOS with CGY retaining 33-50% on him.

4.) 05 Aug 2022 18:19:32
Big yikes then. He may have a rebound year though.

5.) 05 Aug 2022 18:31:22
Chychrun, Crouse, Fischer and maybe Schmaltz are the players Calgary would be most interested in.

Maybe something like:

Chychrun for Hanifin + 2023 1st + 2024 3rd

or Chychrun for Kylington + Valimaki + 2023 1st + 2024 2nd

If Arizona takes Monahan or Lucic too Calgary could add a nice sweeter.

6.) 06 Aug 2022 04:45:53
Hanifin >= Chychrun no need to add anymore unless we’re getting Crouse back as well.

7.) 07 Aug 2022 01:05:00
Actually it might be better to trade Hanifin for a top 6 RW. The question is who?

Timo Meier would be great but probably not available, at least not at a reasonable cost.

8.) 07 Aug 2022 02:48:28
Meier is another Left Shot LW + his QO is $10mil. Had a Great Year, but not consistent enough to warrant that much IMO.

If we go with another Left Shot, it needs to be a Better Playmaker and/ or Centre who will play 2nd line for $5-7mil like JT Miller or Nazem Kadri or on the cheap Stastny, Alex Kerfoot 25-50% retained, Jonathan Drouin 50% retained or Trade for Jason Robertson, Peyton Krebs

Otherwise we’re looking for a Right Shot, like Tarasenko, P. Kane, Garland, Konecny, A. Tuch, J. Bratt or on the cheap Rodrigues, Kessel or a Trade for Martin Necas or NJD Prospect Fabian Zetterlund.

04 Aug 2022 04:38:58
Again for @MoxNix:
BUF's Tage Thompson OR Dylan Cousins FOR
CGY's 2025-1st Round Pick + Oliver Kylington + Adam Ruzicka (or does it need to be Zary or Coronato?)

Lucic & Monahan won't okay a trade to BUF so:
BUF's Alex Tuch + Brett Murray FOR
CGY's Tyler Toffoli + Oliver Kylington
BUF's K.Okposo/50%ret. + Brett Murray + Late Pick/or Prospect Mats Lindgren FOR
CGY's Oliver Kylington

Might be better to offer Valimaki + a 2nd + a Late Pick/Prospect instead OR even Valimaki (+ a 3rd/4th RD Pick to a Third Team to Retain 25%) to get Okposo 75% retained alone

1.) 04 Aug 2022 15:09:26
I'm not Moxnix, but anyway, I can't see Buffalo wanting to part with Thompson, Cousins or Tuch.
I think your post below about bringing in Virtanen is a really good idea. I remember watching him play for the Hitmen, and he was a force. He may not ever reach that level in the NHL, however I still think he's young enough to be a good player in the NHL. I think with a coach like Sutter, this could be a huge win for the Flames if they could get this kid on track. he has all the tools and skillset.

2.) 04 Aug 2022 15:24:53
The last deal could work. Tuch, Cozens and Thompson won’t be moved.

3.) 04 Aug 2022 17:29:21
@Sosa, Agreed, with his current legal issues hopefully behind him and with Good Coaching, maybe Virtanen is able to resume his Career as decent 2/ 3RW. He's definitely Big & Physical

BUF is stacked with Centers and can only have one #1, so do they go with Tage or Cousins!?

Oliver Kylington could bring Peyton Krebs back home to CGY, he'd be a decent Playmaker, just needs to fill out and work on his Defensive Play & Face Offs. Brett Murray might be a decent replacement for Lucic as well.

4.) 05 Aug 2022 01:36:23
I couldn't agree more on Virtanen. I think Sutter would be exactly the right coach to get the very most out of Virtanen.

5.) 05 Aug 2022 17:41:49
Toffoli-Stastny/ Monahan-Coleman
Rooney-J. Larsson-Lewis

6.) 06 Aug 2022 00:22:12
Trade Phillips to Toronto, they love little guys.

04 Aug 2022 04:03:47
Let's give this one a go, @MoxNix is wanting More Size & Grit

WAS's Anthony Mantha @5.7/UFA24 + Garnet Hathaway @1.5/UFA23 FOR
CGY's Tyler Toffoli @4.5/UFA24 + Oliver Kylington @2.5/UFA24 + Milan Lucic @50% Retained = $2.6125

WAS should have sufficient LTIR to take on the additional Cap Hit and need all 3 = Right Shot + Better D + 4LD Toughness CGY brings in a French RW for Huberdeau + a Big, Physical 3/4RW who can Score and Kill Penalties

1.) 04 Aug 2022 04:43:27
Cheaper option might be to sign Jake Virtanen to a PTO.

2.) 04 Aug 2022 15:25:36
Washington laughs at this.

3.) 04 Aug 2022 17:10:09
That's because you ridiculously think Toffoli's only worth a 2nd vbbb

Mantha 20-22: 24G+28A=52PTS/ 93GP = 0.56PPG
Toffoli 20-22: 48G+45A=93PTS/ 126GP = 0.74PPG

CGY would be Crazy to do this Trade. Not only is Toffoli Better, Mantha hasn't ever been able to play a Full Season. I like Hathaway, but he's a Rental.

4.) 05 Aug 2022 01:41:33
Calgary should have resigned Hathaway in the first place instead of letting Washington sign him.

5.) 05 Aug 2022 02:55:23
Mantha was battling injuries that’s not fair. He also is a great 2way player. Nobody wants Toffoli him and Kerfoot have equally little value as the market is small.

6.) 05 Aug 2022 05:09:28
Yeahhhhhh, I’m gonna have to go ahead and just disagree with you there @vbbbvvbb

Toffoli, Kerfoot, Holl, Kylington, Valimaki, N. Robertson, Ruzicka are all gonna surprise you over the next couple seasons My Friend

Go ahead and please get those TPS Reports to me when you can, mmmmmkayy!?

7.) 05 Aug 2022 17:06:49
@TrevorA I'm going to disagree with you in regards to Holl. I think we've seen him at his peak. I'm hopeful Robertson gets a legitimate chance on that second line. Not a few games or a few shifts. Give him a month to figure it out and some time on the 2nd PP and I think he could put up 60 points.

8.) 05 Aug 2022 19:15:52
I Appreciate You Anyways @MG69!

Holl definitely gives the puck away and makes costly mistakes from time to time, but for $2mil, you'd be hard pressed to find a Better RD who can do it all. He's consistent & reliable, but you could always Trade him for a Bottom-6 Player like Tyson Jost or for a 3rd Round Pick to sign PK Subban instead.

27 Jul 2022 05:45:45
Not a Trade, but a Proposal:

Flames should sign Former Hitmen Jake Virtanen to help revive his career after his recent Not Guilty verdict

1.) 27 Jul 2022 13:18:53
He could be a physical threat under Sutter. Virtanen reminds me of Ferland a lot

2.) 27 Jul 2022 16:00:13
That's an interesting idea.

3.) 29 Jul 2022 02:05:40
Sign both Kadri and Virtanen, then trade Backlund and Kylington for some combination of picks prospects and low cost depth players.

Huberdeau - Lindholm - Toffoli
Mangiapane - Kadri - Coleman
Pelletier - Monahan - Virtanen
Rooney - Ruzicka - Dueher/ Lewis

Hanifin - Andersson
Zadorov - Weegar
Mackey - Tanev

Tanev gets his ice time reduced to keep him healthy. He'd still be on the first PK and he's proven to be a really good fit with rookie defensemen. Mackey likes to hit and adds some snarl to the pairing.

That's better than last year's team and without taking into consideration what they get for the players traded away. If Monahan rebounds or they can find a way to recover Monny or Looch's cap hit it gets even better.

4.) 03 Aug 2022 00:43:45
Actually I think Mangiapane would be a better fit as first line RW.

Huberdeau - Lindholm - Mangiapane
Toffoli - Kadri - Coleman
Pelletier - Monahan - Virtanen
Rooney - Ruzicka - Dueher/ Lewis

Maybe Pelletier on the second line and Toffoli or Coleman on the 3rd line.

02 Feb 2022 22:31:30
CGY Trades Future Considerations = A Bag of Pucks To STL for James Neal @$750k/UFA2022 (conditional to Neal only being on the ice when the puck is in the Opponents Zone & on Power Play's).

I certainly didn't like Neal @5.75mil/yr and know he's a 5on5 Defensive Liability, but he's a Super Cheap Sniper & Front of the Net Presence the Flames could probably use right now, just not sure he'd be welcomed or want to come back.

CGY should also try Zadorov on the PP since Kylington, Hanifin & Anderson have only scored 1 Goal combined on the PP this year.

I also propose BANNING Monahan, Lucic, Dube & Ritchie from playing together unless Backlund is Centering them.

Now who wants Tyler Pitlick!?! Condition: The Deal MUST include a 1st RD Pick!

20 Nov 2021 19:12:28
So many upcoming 2022 UFA & RFA's have re-signed extensions already, not waiting for the trade deadline or off-season:

Adam Fox-7yrs x 9.5mil
Charlie McAvoy-8yrs x 9.5mil
Kirill Kaprizoc-5yrs x 9mil
Mika Zibanejad-8yrs x 8.5mil
Brady Tkachuk-8yrs x 8.2mil
Nick Suzuki-8yrs @ 7.9 mil
Morgan Reilly-8yrs x 7.5mil
Elias Petterson-3yrs x 7.325mil; etc.

But Johnny Gaureau and Matthew Tkachuk have not, which is concerning to me...

I understand waiting on Andrew Mangiapane & Oliver Kylington to see if they sustain their play and because they're RFA's, but I'm really worried about the other two.

Gaudreau is probably worth 7-7.35mil for 5-7 years and Tkachuk will want 9-9.5+mil for 5-8 years IMO. I don't see there being enough to sign Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Mangiapane and Kylington unless players like Monhahan, Lucic, Zadorov & Pitlick are moved or let go at free agency for nothing.

I'm specifically worried about Johnny Hockey walking away for nothing in return (like John Tavares) and/or Matthew Tkachuk holds out next year (like his Brother Brady and William Nylander), so who should be traded and for what!?

My Star Targets (no set order) are:
William Nylander/Travis Konecny/Vladimir Tarasenko/Taylor Hall/Boone Jenner/Peyton Krebs/Lucas Raymond/Sam Reinhart/Brendan Gallagher/Nikolaj Ehlers/Kyle Connor/Tom Wilson/Max Pacioretty/Jonathan Marchessault/Brock Boeser/Gabriel Landeskog/Nathan MacKinnon

Tkachuk should bring in much more because of his age, skill and tenacity as in one of the above + 2 1st Round Draft Picks (is his value =, > or < than Jack Eichel?), but the bottom line for me is if he wants to hold out on Calgary or fleece them to stay, he can go IMO and if Gaudreau walks for nothing, I will be choked! Thoughts!?

1.) 20 Nov 2021 21:50:57
I think Gaudreau is likely to walk at the end of the season, while Matthew will hold out like Brady and will end up costing Calgary much more that he can ever live up to.

I think you're overvaluing Matthew by a fair bit as well. I don't see any of the teams you list giving you one of those players plus 2 firsts on top of it. There are 5 players for sure on that list that are worth more than Tkachuk by themselves.

Extremely unlikely you get more for Tkachuk than Buffalo got for Eichel.

Other than that, I can understand your concern.

Not interested in giving up Top Assets for dumping Lucic at this point. Unless we needed the Cap Space to bring another player in, we might as well just keep our 1st and use his Cap Savings for Huberdeau next season

Valimaki + Lucic sure, but we should at least get a 4th-7th Round Pick back in exchange.

I'm having fun with it, just mirroring the tone of the other posters! It's a forum to discuss, banter & challenge ourselves/ others in regards to our/ their hockey knowledge and proposals

Don't have to agree, but I see this as a passionate & competitive hockey debate. I haven't experienced anybody crossing the line or getting abusive

P. S. Calgary Flames >>> Ottawa Senators.

St Albert, Sherwood Park, Fort Saskatchewan, Leduc or Devon are all smaller but still close to Edmonton. A bit further out, you’ve got Spruce Grove or LaCombe.

Airdrie, Cochrane, Okotoks/High River, Langdon all surround Calgary. Strathmore is a bit further out or you could retire in Canmore, but it can be pricey.

Lethbridge is far south and windy. Cold Lake is pretty far north near the Saskatchewan border and Fort Mac is even farther north. Nice in summer, but super cold winters and hours away from Edmonton.
