To PIT: $4.375mil
RW-Zach Kassian @3.20/UFA2024
RW/C-Kailer Yamamoto @1.175/RFA2022

To EDM: $4.95mil
RW-Kasperi Kapanen @3.20/RFA2022
LW-Zach Aston-Reese @1.75/UFA2022 (OR LW/C-Brian Boyle @750k/UFA2022)

OPTIONAL:
G-Mikko Koskinen @4.50/UFA2022
+?

LW-Jason Zucker @5.50/UFA2023
G-Casey DeSmith @1.25/UFA2022

Heard Burke is interested in Kassian and improving their Back Up Goaltending, I think he'd move Kapanen before Rust or Rodriguez and maybe they swap Koskinen for Zucker & figure out how to include DeSmith, EDM either adds another player or PIT does some retention.

Help me out, what would a deal between PIT & EDM look like to you?

Kassian is definitely a Burke kinda guy, and I like the outline of this trade. EDM still needs a goalie most, so perhaps a team other than PIT makes a better trade partner? I do like this proposal of yours though.

To LAK:
LD/RD-Nikita Zadorov @3.75/UFA2022
LD-Jusso Valimaki @1.55/RFA2023
2022-7th Round Pick-CGY (if needed)

To CGY:
LD-Olli Maatta @3.33/UFA2022
LD-Tobias Bjornfot @ELC-894k/RFA2023
RD-Austin Strand @ELC-771k/RFA2022

I know LA & CGY are in the same Division, but LA needs more offensive LD's with Edler being injured and CGY needs a more Defensive D-Man for their 3rd-Pairing LD, so if Giordano doesn't happen, maybe this deal happens.

Valimaki is likely far more NHL ready than Bjornfot, so they swap & CGY still has an LD Prospect for the future and pick up Calgary born RD Strand at the same time. This move would also open up $845k in Cap Space for CGY.

TrevorA

1.) 22 Jan 2022 16:58:24
Bjornfot is 2 and a half years younger and already played as many games. He’s more NHL ready. I think LA is pretty high on him.

2.) 22 Jan 2022 19:11:00
Good Point, I was thinking Valimaki had higher Offensive Statistics and might be more composed and mature given his age. Valimaki lost 2 years because of an injury and isn't getting the playing time he should.

Could take Valimaki and Bjornfot out and just go with Zadorov for Maatta, but CGY should try to acquire Austin Strand still too if LA will give him up. Lots of LA fans dislike Maatta, but I find him to be pretty defensively responsible and is +56 at 5on5, just not sure how good of a pucker mover he is, but he might be a more steady 3rd Pairing LD and PK option for Calgary.

To EDM: RD-Josh Brown @1.20/UFA2022

To OTT: LD/RD-Slater Koekkoek @925k/UFA2023
OPTIONAL:
To OTT: C/RW-Kyle Turris @1.65/UFA2022 + C/RW-Derek Ryan @1.25/UFA2023 + LD Prospect-Dmitri Samorukov @ELC/RFA2022 + 2022-7th Round Pick-EDM

To EDM: C/LW- Nick Paul @1.35/UFA2022

Turris had success in Ottawa and may be welcomed back and Ryan is sent to replace Nick Paul's Penalty Killing should Ottawa be willing to move him. Otherwise, Cap Dump by Oilers for former 3rd RD Pick Samorukov + a 7th.

To BUF: G-Mikko Koskinen @4.5/UFA2022 + LD-William Lagesson @750k/RFA2022

To EDM: LD-Robert Hagg @1.60/UFA2022 + G-Dustin Tokarski @725k/UFA2022

TrevorA

1.) 20 Jan 2022 16:19:35
That would huge for Edmonton but Buffalo would want more than Lagesson. Maybe Samurakov would be enough? Probably still need to add.

2.) 20 Jan 2022 19:46:54
Koskinen = Hagg + Tokarski; RFA Lagesson is the incentive for Buffalo

Koskinen is still a Good Goalie, he's just cursed in Edmonton and has Poor Defenders in front of him, specifically Barrie and Ceci + 1/ 2 the Forwards.

20 Jan 2022 00:06:58
To OTT: LD/RD-Nikita Zadorov @3.75/UFA2022
To CGY: LD-Dillon Heatherington @750k/UFA2022 + 3rd RD Pick-VAN

Option: Ottawa sends Nick Paul instead of VAN's 3rd Round Pick, but takes either Tyler Pitlick or Brad Richardson (if Sutter okays it) back too.

TrevorA

1.) 20 Jan 2022 02:19:53
Why does Ottawa do it.

2.) 20 Jan 2022 03:41:39
Zadorov is a Big 6’6 235lb Former 16th Overall Pick and Ottawa is short on NHL Ready LD’s.

Currently they’re using a 23 year old RD Prospect = Brannstrom for their 3rd Pairing LD and a 21 year old Rookie in Bernard-Docker with only 11 games under his belt on the 1st Pairing since Zaitsev is injured. Both healthy scratch’s = Mete is small and Heatherington doesn’t have near as much NHL experience and they don’t have any other Prospects ready, so Zadorov fits the bill and should appeal to them.

They like Russian D-Men and would likely sign Zadorov to a mid-to-long term contract if he does well there this year. Only really cost them a 3rd for a Top-4 D-Man + Heatherington, which they signed as a FA.

3.) 20 Jan 2022 04:05:07
If they don’t want to pay the 3rd (they have 3 of them), then send UFA Nick Paul instead if they’re not planning to re-sign him for Pitlick, who may do better there or they’re free of him after the season = little risk.

4.) 20 Jan 2022 12:45:07
Sens are out of playoff picture. If they want Zadorov they can just pay him next summer. I don’t see the point in giving up assets for him now just to help the flames out.

5.) 20 Jan 2022 20:00:52
You're not wrong, but my view is it's a 3rd OR UFA Nick Paul + UFA Heatherington = not much to see if Zadorov is a fit and to try and charm him in to a Team Friendly contract. Waiting till Free Agency will create competition and could drive up the price on Zadorov.

Zadorov is likely tired of bouncing around at this point in his career, so is probably looking for a long-term NHL stay. He might feel more comfortable and play better with two other Russian D-Men too, so I think Ottawa would appeal to him where he would likely be slotted on the 2nd D-Pairing with Zub or Zaitsev. Ottawa paying something to show they value him, could go a long way as well. If not, he may just go back to Russia and play in the KHL.

So many upcoming 2022 UFA & RFA's have re-signed extensions already, not waiting for the trade deadline or off-season:

Adam Fox-7yrs x 9.5mil
Charlie McAvoy-8yrs x 9.5mil
Kirill Kaprizoc-5yrs x 9mil
Mika Zibanejad-8yrs x 8.5mil
Brady Tkachuk-8yrs x 8.2mil
Nick Suzuki-8yrs @ 7.9 mil
Morgan Reilly-8yrs x 7.5mil
Elias Petterson-3yrs x 7.325mil; etc.

But Johnny Gaureau and Matthew Tkachuk have not, which is concerning to me...

I understand waiting on Andrew Mangiapane & Oliver Kylington to see if they sustain their play and because they're RFA's, but I'm really worried about the other two.

Gaudreau is probably worth 7-7.35mil for 5-7 years and Tkachuk will want 9-9.5+mil for 5-8 years IMO. I don't see there being enough to sign Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Mangiapane and Kylington unless players like Monhahan, Lucic, Zadorov & Pitlick are moved or let go at free agency for nothing.

I'm specifically worried about Johnny Hockey walking away for nothing in return (like John Tavares) and/or Matthew Tkachuk holds out next year (like his Brother Brady and William Nylander), so who should be traded and for what!?

My Star Targets (no set order) are:
William Nylander/Travis Konecny/Vladimir Tarasenko/Taylor Hall/Boone Jenner/Peyton Krebs/Lucas Raymond/Sam Reinhart/Brendan Gallagher/Nikolaj Ehlers/Kyle Connor/Tom Wilson/Max Pacioretty/Jonathan Marchessault/Brock Boeser/Gabriel Landeskog/Nathan MacKinnon

Tkachuk should bring in much more because of his age, skill and tenacity as in one of the above + 2 1st Round Draft Picks (is his value =, > or < than Jack Eichel?), but the bottom line for me is if he wants to hold out on Calgary or fleece them to stay, he can go IMO and if Gaudreau walks for nothing, I will be choked! Thoughts!?

TrevorA

I think Gaudreau is likely to walk at the end of the season, while Matthew will hold out like Brady and will end up costing Calgary much more that he can ever live up to.

I think you're overvaluing Matthew by a fair bit as well. I don't see any of the teams you list giving you one of those players plus 2 firsts on top of it. There are 5 players for sure on that list that are worth more than Tkachuk by themselves.

Extremely unlikely you get more for Tkachuk than Buffalo got for Eichel.

Other than that, I can understand your concern.

Semyon Varlamov for Koskinen + Two (2x) 2nds would probably be better till Skinner or Konovalov are ready to be Starters.

Konovalov will likely end up being the better goalie though…. So much to give up for a guy that’s still only averaging about a 3.00GAA and 0.910Sv%, but who knows, Oilers are desperate so I’ll put it as believable, but that doesn’t mean I think they should do it though.

Intereting…. Okay Sure, but we want one of either Riley Stillman, Nic Beaudin, Nolan Allan, Louis Crevier or Alex Vlasic and I think CHI needs Tyler Pitlick too.

Does this make Johnny Gaudreau expendable too and if so, do you trade him before the TDL and what does he bring back? Still need a better 2C and true RW, since DeBrincat is a LW….

BIG NO from TO. This doesn't improve the Maple Leafs and gives up too much of their future for pieces they don't need.

They are in need of a Top-6 LW, not a RW and Muzzin and Holl are their Top 2 Penalty Killers and are also much larger than Gostisbehere and Stralman. There's no way they'd be interested in Eriksson (even 50% retained) over Ritchie either.

Maybe they send Mrazek in exchange for a Draft Pick to clear Cap Space if ARI isn't one of the 10 Teams on "Petr The Great's" No Trade List, but that's about it.
