TOR: 1st round pick (2016)

CBJ: 1st round pick (PIT) (2016), Nazem Kadri, Frank Corrado.

Hard to say now not knowing what the picks are. If CBJ is picking top 10 then no.

2.) 10 Mar 2016 16:47:45
Pits pick will probably be 16th i'd only see this deal being mutually if Toronto can get Nylander, Sergichive, Chychrun or The Finnish D.

3.) 10 Mar 2016 16:48:58
If CBJ picks 7-10 and PITs pick is 16-19, then you may be able to move up. I'm not sure what the other pieces of that trade would look like though. Not sure Kadri has the sort of draw to justify moving down. He's talented and fit to be a good #2, but he's going to want a raise and CBJ doesn't have a ton of cap space, especially with Jones coming up.

TOR: Andersen, Fowler

ANA: JvR, Polak

All things considered, JvR > Fowler. Some could argue you can't compare them but in the case of Anaheim with Sami Vatanen, they don't totally need Fowler. Also in this trade, they address their goaltending situation. I think any person would have to agree that Gibson is the man between the pipes in the future. In this trade, the Ducks get the kind of defenceman that can help them in the dying minutes of the playoffs to keep the puck out. Because let's face it. Having a positive +/ - on Toronto this season is more than impressive.

You can say JVR > Fowler but "let's face it", he's a young top-4 defenseman capable of top-2 minutes. Fowler > JVR
And then Andersons value >>> Polak.

2.) 11 Feb 2016 00:42:38
I like the idea, tho if. Leafs are shipping out a 30 Goal awesome contract player for 3 years, the return has to have more potential than topped out Fowler.

Lindholm (RFA) Anderson (UFA) for Bernier and JVR.

3.) 11 Feb 2016 03:18:22
Fowler isn't > then JVR but Leafs still add.

CHI: Nazem Kadri

TOR: 2016 1st round pick, Rob Scuderi.

Toronto is not taking back a cap dump for Kadri. Let alone a 27-30th pick is not going to sway Toronto to move him.

2.) 10 Feb 2016 06:32:22
Not worth a 1st.

3.) 10 Feb 2016 06:33:28
1st round pics are big assests to get but let's face it Chicago will be from 27-30.So i'm not sure i'd bite on this one.

4.) 10 Feb 2016 12:25:36
Laughable easy no from Toronto.

5.) 10 Feb 2016 13:40:56
easily worth a first, you're delusional.

Edmonton: Dion Phaneuf
Toronto: 2015 1st round pick (16 overall), Teddy Purcell

Edmonton gets a top 4 defenseman to play with a young core. Toronto gets a good pick in the draft as well as an inconsistent winger with too large a salary, typical of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Dion isn't worth that much

2.) 08 Jun 2015 15:25:19
Edmonton would more than likely peruse other options before they would consider a trade like this. Dions contract is ridiculously huge. 6 more years at 7million per. that's just insane for someone of his caliber. not saying he is a bad defense man. but he definitely isn't worth 7million per year. Edmonton has a pretty good chance at signing a UFA that's just as good or better for half that price. and they wouldn't have to give away any assets in the process. Although it would be good for Toronto. this trade makes no sense from Edmonton stand point.

3.) 08 Jun 2015 16:25:42
And Petry is worth is worth 5.5mill right? If phaneuf went to free agency that year he signed his contract he WOULD have been paid more. A player is worth what the market will pay

4.) 08 Jun 2015 16:40:29
lucyford, who are these ufa d-men that are just as good and are willing to sign for 3.5 mil? cause I don't know of any.

and yea, petry is the perfect example of why your loic is flawed, I think most would agree that phaneuf is a better player than petry, yet petry I paid only 1.5 mil less and many claims (idk how truthful) say that he could have gotten more had he went to ufa.

5.) 08 Jun 2015 20:57:05
Petry was way over paid. bad move by Montreal. So as far as UFA's Martin, Oduya, Sekera, Franson, Beauchemin, Jackman, Volchekov. We can look at it a few ways. top paid last year were Oduya and Martin at ab round 5.5 per. for the sake of it I'll put Sekera and Franson in this category too. Hypothetically the Oilers could sign one of those 4 guys at 6million per year on a 4 year deal which would be a 24million dollar contract. pretty much half the price of Dions 42million over the next 6. Mid range guys like Beauchemin and jackman would be good for a couple years probably around the 3 - 3.5million range based on what they made last year. Then Volchenkov played for 1million last year. Way rather have Volchenkov over 3 years at 1 million a year than Dion for 21million over 3 years. Sure let's say Dion is a better player than Volchenkov. but he's not 6million a year better. The best value for your buck is with all the guys I just mentioned, not with Dion. and like I said all of them are UFA's. so you would have to give up anything in return

6.) 08 Jun 2015 22:04:29
Players are definitely not worth what they get paid on the market. And Petry is a solid 2nd pair d so ya 5.5 was an overpayment. I'd say a long term 4.5 would've been alright

7.) 08 Jun 2015 22:38:46
Lol petry was not overpaid is great 3 d man on good team
And first on a team like the Oilers! I think that its the market value for petry!

8.) 09 Jun 2015 01:04:18
Phaneuf can easily get that in a trade. He would be EDM's best defender and improves their blue line immediately.

However, the trade is counter intuitive. EDM is at minimum 3 years away from being a playoff contender and 5+ years away from Cup contender talk (that's assuming everything goes really well). By that time Phaneuf won't be the same player. The pick would be better used on a d-man who will be good when they start to hit their stride.

Not even Toronto has enough cap space to make that team fit within it. Terrible offers. And by the way, I don't think it's Byfuglien and Kane's decision if they take a discounted price (which that really is discounted). Rinne, arguably one if not the best goalie in the world, for junk is not going to be had. Just a couple points.

Way too much from the Jets. They won't have a team without those 3.

The Leafs aren't going to destroy their prospect depth just for one player.
