I've seen these Phaneuf and Gardiner trades to Edmonton. No team in their right mind would take on 10+ mil for 2 average defensman long term. I'm sure the oilers would be happy to dump Nikitin and Purcell, but they only have one year left and the oilers can absolutely handle keeping them for one year. As for the second trade, I feel it's and overpayment from the oilers. Klefbom imo has more value than 1 year of buff, and I know buff is going to get paid and he is not the type of player that I would want long term given his age and athleticism.

How is lander in the lineup when he was traded? Regardless, the oilers won't take on that much long term salary between Gardiner and Phaneuf. And this is the first time in a long time the oilers have had center depth and they wouldn't gut their depth for an ageing winger.

thats also a lot of money invested in our left side and u get rid of klefbom who I think is going to be better then gardiner. phaneuf is worth more with 2mill retained and the fact u add a defensemen like gardener with potenial shows ure bias. also nurse is knocking on the door with gardner phaneuf sekera and ference here for another 2 years at least is a pretty big problem

What the hell would Edmonton want Nash for?! Especially at that price!
And Phaneuf? They just signed Sekera, who is equal to if not better than Phaneuf these days. And Phanuef's contract is worse. And they give up Klefbom for him? What are you on?

Fillpula is a C. In other words, Caps have no use for him. And they surely wouldn't give up Burakovsky for him. No deal. Besides, Fill is working just fine in TB.

3 legit scoring lines. If Drouin on the first line does not work for whatever reason, switch him with Filppula.

@tampa bay: once again, McGinn will not play for TB, he was signed for Syracuse.
@Oilers11: Paquette will likely battle Marchessault and Brown for the final roster spot. Everyone elses plays is pretty much guaranteed.
And @ tampa bay again: Horrible D lines. Both Garrison+Coburn and Sustr+Carle have proved to not work well.
Hedman - Coburn
Stralman - Carle
Garrison - Sustr
While I don't like Coburn and him getting stuck in our own d-zone, Hedman will help this, since he excels at skating/passing pucks out.
Stralman can play with almost anyone, so pair him with Carle for a good 2nd pairing.
Garrison has proven to be the Sustr-whisperer as the only partner Sustr looked good next to.
Nesterov takes minutes next to either Hedman or Garrison on occasinal shifts as 7th defenseman (could be switched with Sustr, if he plays better).
I can 99.99% guarantee DeAngelo won't be an NHL regular this season. TB is taking the slow approach with their prospects (see Kucherov, Drouin, etc), so DeAngelo playing in the NHL without a year in the AHL is almost impossible, unless 4-5 Tampa defenseman get injured.

Fleury is one of Carolinas better prospects and even though Skinner has injury problems he is still young and has loads of skill, I don't think Carolina trades them for an ageing Hossa and Bickell when they are in a rebuild.
I think Seabrook could get a better package while saving more cap.

I personally like this trade a lot! It gives us that top 2 defenceman that is an offensive defenceman so he can play with Shultz, and we get a really good sniper to play on the first line with either RNH or McDavid.ðŸ‘
