Why this trade works :
Winnipeg gets a solid 3rd centre that can help them for playoff push, takes away defensive responsibilities to the top 2 centres. Plekanec's cap hit is 6M while Enstrom's is 5.75 M. Enstrom is dead wood so the 2nd rounder is to compensate. Both contracts finishes at the end of the season so Habs don't keep Enstrom.

Winnipeg doesn't need Plekanec enough to give away a roster player and a pick for him. Maybe a 3rd or 4th round pick if the Jets feel Plekanec is a worthwhile TDL pickup, but that is about it.

He is a very useful and underrated defenseman, similar to Ryan Ellis.

Size Issues
Montreal Canadiens primarily needs big/non-midget offensive players.
Offensive (5'9 players or lower) :
Since Captain Gio won't come back next year so we have a free RW spot on the 2nd/3rd line.
We keep DD (Pacioretty's feeder) and go after a big-offensive RW to create more space for David on the 1st line.
We wait for Brière's contract to finish or we buy him out.
Gallagher goes nowhere.
Defensive " :
Habs won't resign Bouillon.
Before we get into trade possibilities, let's see Montreal's salary cap space.
www.nhlnumbers.com : 1. 925 M$ this season.
- Gio's contract = 6. 925 M$ (5M$)
- Subban's contract = 10. 725 M$ (3. 75M$)
- Markov's contract = 16. 5 M$ (5. 75M$)
- Bouillon & Murray's contracts = 19. 5 M$ (3M$ together)
- Diaz's contract = 20. 75 M$ (1. 25M$)
- Eller's contract = 22. 25 M$ (1. 5M$)
- White's contract = 22. 95 M$ (0. 7M$)

I think Nygren will take the right bottom D spot, he is good offensively (PP) and is more responsible defensively than Beaulieu. He is a close NHL-ready player and also won the Salming trophy in the SHL for best defensman. Excellent two-way D, he will eventually take a spot on the 2nd D line.
4th line left winger :
Habs sign LW Tanner Glass, 1, 3$ for 3 years (excellent 3rd/4th liner, Montreal fans would really like him. ) 6'1, Weight 210.
So 8. 3 M-1. 3 M = 7M$ left.
1st line right winger :

1.) I can't say I really like all the trades, but the needs are spot on. we don't need franzen even if he's big, we have to try and get younger, and less injury prone players. the franzen trade is just to much going to detroit.
2.) If I was MB, I would try to land W. Simmonds, a big RW to play with Pacioretty and Desharnais. And if possible keep T. Bozon.
3.) I would love to see a right winger from Philly, but not Simmonds. I see more potential in Jakub Voracek, but the cost is obviously higher (easily a first and a top prospect).
4.) I appreciate the thought put into this post, I like the first trade but not so much the second.
I wouldn't buyout briere quite yet though.
Also i'd like to hang onto Parros unless we can get our hands on a better fighter.
5.) Subban wants 8 mil, and he'll probably get it.

Funny I thought about this trade few nights ago. Two D's with similar body sizes/potential. The change of scenery could be good for both.
