Montreal Trades
Weber
(Retain 50% of Weber's remaining Contract)

Toronto Trades
Zaitsev
Timashov (AHL)
Sandin (AHL)
1st Round Pick 2019
4th Round Pick 2019 (Blues Pick)

In the big picture even though Montreal has played pretty well this year they are still in more of a rebuild then a retool, this type of Trade helps for there future.

Toronto needs a Top Defenceman that shoots Right and Weber fills all that and more, he would fit right into the Leafs Defence, without Montreal retaining 50% the Leafs just couldn't afford the Cap so that would be the most important in this Trade Proposal.

Thoughts ?

This trade makes no sense for the Habs. Why would they trade a proven leader and #1 d-man for poor prospects and high draft picks then retain 1/ 2 the salary?

Not a chance from Montreal.

Have to agree with jet. If Zaitsev is included the Habs don't retain anything.

But jet. Sandin is far from a poor prospect. He is a very good prospect performing very well in the AHL and will be on the Swedish junior team which has probably the deepest defense in the tourny.

Really bad for mtl. Also only get sandin back that as any value.

@ij, would Montreal do it? Probably not. But calling Sandin a poor prospect and downplaying 1st round picks just makes you sound like colt lol Montreal wouldn’t pay half of the salary of their rivals best Dman. Simple.

How is it only Leaf draft picks have no value. When there is an offer that includes a team like Pittsburgh no one ever says the pick has no value. Even a late 1st rounder provides real good value.

Don’t listen to anything islandjet has to say. He’s always talking trash. Only jets players and prospects are of any value.

Leaf 17 your a blind homer that believes that every Leaf player and prospects are the greatest and should be coveted by all teams. Every one sided trade proposal is great and every team should be happy to get any Leaf player that is proposed in a trade. Only Sandin has a chance to be good NHLer, but not yet. The rest don't help the Habs at all.

@Leafs17. I’ve said it a bunch of times on here. When you’re trading the best player for a package of pieces, it’s as much how you handle and use the assets as what assets you get back. When we traded Kessel, they said leafs wanted Matt Murray as first choice, Derrick Pouliot as 2nd choice and Kappy as 3rd choice prospect. So they got kapanen and then they used the late 1st, 30th overall (that IslandJet and Colt say have no value) to get Freddy Andersen. They also still have JD Greenway developing nicely from the 3rd rounder in that deal.

At the beginning I wasn’t stoked about the trade, thought maybe they rushed it a bit and could have got a better return. But when you look and see they shed that money, Babcock didn’t want Kessel around and they end up with a great goalie on a steal of a contract and a cpl good young players, they did well. So did Pittsburgh. I guess IJ and Colt have no faith in their GMs to use the assets properly which would then be a problem trusting them to make any trade. Also Anaheim used penguins 30th pick we sent them on Sam Steel, so it looks like they made good use of the assets too. That’s what it’s about.

MTL would have to decline. Only Sandin and the 1st have any value there. Also, they just got their captain back - not the time to trade him. If this was the return for Weber - MB would be fired.

Shea Weber IS and will REMAIN a Montreal Canadien. Try us again though when he's about 45 or so.
