Soooooo…WPG would trade an elite G (AND PAY HALF HIS SALARY) for:

- an unsigned G who may not sign

- a horrible G who is no longer a credible NHL G…BUT… (this is the best part), the leafs DO NOT retain a dime of the contract?. (Let that one sink in)

- a D who is a 5-6 at best on a below-average team

- a bust of a prospect drafted in 2019 who is currently injured, undersized, and who has played 31 NHL games in 4 seasons, registering seven NHL points?

Pinball, this is a garbage trade by any measure. This is beyond just a Homer Trade. It’s mental. It is untethered to reality.

I like the Samsonov idea - only if there was some sort of "Sign and Trade". drop all other players and include Liljegren. When dealing away Helly, Winnipeg will need another goalie to remain competitive, . as Brossoit is not a Bonafide starting goalie.


It would then look like:

To Toronto: Hellebuyck

To Winnipeg: Samsonov (sign and trade) and Liljegren.

FLYER: Samsonov + Lilly seems a little light for a top-tier G like Helly.

I consider Jet to be the authourity on all things WPG, so we’ll see what he says, but this seems generous to the leafs.

Goalies don’t usually get that much in trades but with that being said NJ and Buffalo beat those offers.

The Jets are looking to trade Helly and Scheifele but they won't take on foolish contracts or bottom of the barrel players just to make a trade.
This trade also expects the Jets to have the honor of paying 50% of Helly salary and cap hit so the Leafs can continue to skirt the cap.
Its not a very fair trade.
Chickenfoot said it well, this isn't a trade the Jets would ever consider.
