Why? To all of this. Why is Kessel on the third line? How would this work with Toronto's salary? Kessel's contact has a NTC and a NMC clause, why would he want to go back to Toronto were the worst years of his career were?

1. He'd want to go back to Toronto to win 2. He wouldn't have a choice cause I would assume Toronto is not one of the 8 teams on his no-trade list. Kadri and Brown are basically the equivalent of Kessel's salary, and Kessel is a top RW in the league which Toronto would love to have. He's on the third line because Matthews is a scorer and putting two snipers on one line wouldn't work, Nylander is more of a playmaker and would probably work well with Kessel.

Cap space from the leafs POV makes it a no go. Trades will need to be made to replace/ Make space for the following.

-Mitch Marner ( 10+ million )
-Jake Gardiner ( Dermotte takes his spot but someone needs to play on the third pairing )
- 1RD to replace/ resign ( Hanisey )
- Kappanen ( around 5 mil )
-Johanson ( around 4 mil )

According spotrac. com the leafs will have roughly 27 million in cap space so this could be manageable but it’ll be cutting it close.

Did you ever look at it? It shows the caps for 7 seasons on my devices. And leafs 17 who said they would show what players will sign for? They are a cap site not a magical wizardry site.
