( I feel that this move send Flames to the Conference Final possibly, with the stellar defence and the solid Bottom 6. As for the Sharks, they gain the cap space to sign another Top 4-6 defensmen in FA and gain solid defensive forward depth. Ryan and Mangiapane would sting but the Flames have Nordstrom and Simon who could fill their roles nicely. )

No!

30 year old Erik Karlson isn't worth 11.5 mil per year. Not only that but he'll be making it for 7 more years. Taking on that albatross of a contract wouldn't send the Flames to the conference final, it'd cripple them for nearly a decade.

@NotACasual. He hasn’t been the same since the foot injuries. 2-3 seasons. Is he bad? No way, but he’s just not the guy everyone thought he was when he got $11.5M a season anymore.

I agree with the others that at 30 years old, making $11.5M for 6-7 more years and 3 years removed from being at his best, it’s a bad investment.

Karlsson would be a tough trade to make. he'll be an underperformer until he's eventually bought out.
