Oilers biggest problem last season was depth scoring.
It says something when Zack Kassian is fifth in point totals (forwards) with 26.
Fourth being Chiasson with 38.

Potential cheap scoring players in free agency:

- Brandon Pirri
- Marcus Johansson
- Carter Verhaeghe (AHL) (76GP 82P)
- Daniel Carr (AHL) (52GP 71P)
- Richard Panik

Which player does it make the most sense to pursue? Which to avoid?

Brandon Pirri. Marcus Johnsson might ask for 5 million.

Johansson won't ask for 5 million. If he does, nobody will give that to him. Inconsistent and injured last two seasons. 44 points in 87 games between the last 2 seasons.

3.5 for 1 year seems reasonable for him, due to the Oilers having winger issues he will most likely become a first line winger with McDavid which will increase his point production significantly and in turn probably get him a huge pay-raise.

If Jeff Skinner is worth 9 Marcus Johnsson is worth 5 imo Skinner set the market.

Also I believe Verhaeghe is an RFA who Tampa is likely expecting to play a role on the big club next year, not sure what it’d take for them not to match but I’m assuming not what most people would offer someone without NHL experience.

Man again you don’t know anything so I’ll try to explain this so a child can comprehend this. Okay so here we go the NHL has a thing called a salary cap. Teams can’t spend money on players over the max limit. Each year there is inflation on the Cap meaning the cap increases and teams can spend more. When the cap goes up so do the amount of money the players ask for think of it as a function that never ends. The higher the salary cap the more expensive the contracts are. 3 years ago when McDavid signed his contract the cap was lower and players demanded less. Now they demand more meaning yes Drais and McDavid are worth more now then when the cap was Lower. Think of it this way back in the 60s you could go into a store and buy a beg of candy and pop for 15 cents now today it is worth 5 bucks this is do to inflation and a competitive market. Same thing applies to the NHL.
