I don't think the leafs get Faulk for that package. I'm not a fan of Skinner but he still has value.

Let me just go on the record by saying this trade WILL NOT happen.

However, I'm going to play devil's advocate on this trade. So first and foremost, JVR is better than Skinner, by a lot. In fact you could make the argument, with Skinner's injury concerns, Gardiner is closer in value and JVR is the trade comparable with Faulk. Either way, the question is, whether the balance of JVR and/ or Gardiner, Kapanen and Hunwick make up the remaining gap with Faulk? Hunwick is a depth player and has little value IMO. Similarly, Kapanen has value as a prospect and I'm sure if he was on any other team people would look at him differently, but ultimately he's not tipping the scales on this trade.

Taking a quick look at Gardiner and Faulk (assuming you take a moment to take the "I hate Gardiner glasses" off), they aren't that far apart in terms of production, in particular when you look at possession stats over the last few years. Now Faulk is a better dman, hands down but don't make the trade out to be completely lopsided for Toronto because it's not.

I don't have JVR better than Skinner by alot. Skinner is the better goal scorer and younger. His injury problems are what? He played 82 last year and 70+ the 2 years prior. I would take JVR on my team over Skinner, but I would also consider a straight up trade as their value is close. Maybe skinner and a 4th or 3rd for JVR.
