Tor-Gardiner, Kadri
Car-Eric Staal

Sounds like Staal is on the market if he's willing to wave his no trade clause. He always plays well in Toronto and seems that he would be willing to go there if anywhere and the Leafs will likely try to get him.

What would Carolina want back?

1.) 15 Oct 2014
Staal is injured
He can not get traded

2.) 15 Oct 2014
No cap space

3.) 15 Oct 2014
Any trade involving eric would probably have to involve jordon and jared staal as well.

4.) 15 Oct 2014
Clarkson or another high cap hit player would have to be in that deal

5.) 15 Oct 2014
^ no it wouldn't.

6.) 15 Oct 2014
The no it wouldn't was in regards to the Jordan/Jared Staal comment.

7.) 15 Oct 2014
Firstly, no player would ever tie themselves to another player. Hockey is a business, and the teams and players are business entities. If Staal saw an opportunity to win or to change the current trajectory of his career, he would accept change.

Staal is still a 60 point player and an excellent 2-way player and of course an excellent leader. The intangibles have and will not change, but his points have dropped due to injuries.

As a GM, trading Kadri for Staal makes sense, but adding assets like a 1st, and possibly a top prospect or a top 6 winger for an injury prone centre, making 7+ mill a year is plain stupid. Unless the Canes are looking to rid of him for Kadri, plus a bit more, I wouldn't touch him

8.) 15 Oct 2014
^ How is Staal injury prone? He missed 12 games in 2009/2010 and hasn't missed more than 5 games in any other season?

Jordan on the other hand is injury prone.

Players will tie themselves to other players, especially family. The guy is making a lot of money no matter where he is playing. If he is happiest playing with his brothers he isn't going to leave them. Sometimes family means more to players than winning. Also, remember Gretzky refused to go to L.A. unless McSorely was going with him. I know, a bit more extreme he could demand anything he wanted, but one of his conditions was he wasn't separated from another player.

10.) 16 Oct 2014
^ I'd say the sedin twins are pretty tied together.

Apparently you would have to add a first to that if that was their deal. I might do Nazem Kadri, James Reimer, Jake Gardiner for Eric Staal and Anton Khudobin.
