Same cap hit but Ehlers has 6 years left and RNH has 2 years (and is older) . I think the trade has some merit. I wonder if RNH is as good right now as he's ever going to be.

It would be a more than fair trade but I'm not a fan of RNH as he plays a soft perimeter game. He's a younger more talented version of Little. Ehlers is younger, signed to a great contract for 6 more years while RNH will be a UFA in 2 years and will expect a lot more $ than the Jets would pay.

Hopkins is the better 2 way player and plays the more important position. One 70 point season does not mean Hopkins will be getting a significant raise. If Ehlers does not bounce back to at least 60 points, his contract will be considered a dump. I’m not a fan of either team but I’d say the trade is even, only because Ehlers is younger and I think he will bounce back from a terrible season. Edmonton definitely does not add. Ehlers “signed to a great contract” is comical when they call other teams players cap dumps of similar age or contracts.

Wow terrible for Edmonton. Just downgrading for the heck of it? Jets add quite a bit. Maybe trouba? he's not worth much for 1 season.
