I have proposed this trade before but in honour of one week to the trade deadline I am posting it again. I really think it works and helps both teams (sorry, its another JVR trade, I know you are all sick of them)

To ANA: JVR (50% retained), Hunwick, TImashov

To TOR: Max Jones, Stoner, Larsson, and 2017 1st.

JVR's value seems to be about a 1st and a top prospect. Leafs retain 50% of his already cheap salary, and take on Stoner's $3.2 mill contract next year which helps them with their cap situation.

Break down:

JVR = Jones + 1st (currently 23rd overall)

Larsson = 50% retained, Stoner's cap dump, Timashov and Hunwick for the playoff run

Leafs fans will cry that they should only trade JVR for a young RHD. Respectfully, I do not think that deal is out there. JVR is the last chip for the Leafs to play in their rebuild and their team is not complete yet. This trade will give them a chance to fill some of those gaps with quality prospects.

Anaheim gets the scoring LW they need at a very cheap rate. More importantly, they hold on to Montour and Theodore. Anaheim needs Montour because they will buy out Bieksa (he will not wave his NTC to go to the Leafs after how they treated Laich and Michalek) before the expansion draft and might lose Manson in that draft, which seriously depletes their right side. With Stoner and Kolzer gone, Theodore will finally fill that 3rd pairing. I think the Ducks have a two year window, this deal signals they are going for it.

That's a bit much from Anaheim.

I'm torn. At first glance I think far too much from Anaheim, but then again apart from JVRs own value on the ice, losing stoners 3.2 for this year and next, and getting JVR for 2.125 mill for this year and next has big value on its own for a team like Anaheim. Leafs need compensated for those favours and so maybe you're not too far off. Makes me think and weigh it out which is more than most proposals on here. Good thoughts.

Why do the Leafs need to give up Timashov? also yeah as a leafs fan I don't want another forward. Jones isn't such an improvement on our other LW prospects. Timashov is a top LW prospect, so why are we trading him away?

Just wondering why is Timashov a top LW prospect? Did you mean he is Toronto's top LW prospect or am I missing something?

Bad trade doesn't make sense.

Respectfully, I am a big Timashov fan (he was great in the WJC and the Q) but the Leafs already have similar players. Jones is a big, bruising, shooting LW that Leafs could use on a line with Marner. The Ducks already have a similar player in RItchie but lack a finesse guy like Timashov. I don't think JVR for a top D man deal is out there. Like I said, I feel that this deal really helps both teams.
