The Leafs are in desperate need of a leader on the Blueline, Since phaneufs departure nobody has really stepped up, and stood out. ImO jake gardiner has flashes of brilliance but with that comes defensive flaws, constantly being muscled off the puck, being outbattled for position, they need to package him to land a top tier dman. POTENTIAL deals:

TO Calgary: James Van Reimsdyk, Nikita Soshnikov 2nd in 2017 (pretty thin draft year leafs will likely pick mid pack)
TO Toronto: Douggie Hamilton

this trade then makes Gardiner disposable. You can then package him in a deal for a forward,
example
TO colorado: Jake Gardiner,Kerby Reichel, 1st in 2017 for Gabriel Landeskog

knowing how much Burke will try and squeeze out ofmtoronto another Dman You always hear linked to tononto is Shattenkirk. Both Hamilton and Shattenkirk are similar dman with sililar styles, can skate move the puck quick , and both have offensive upside, I would prefer Hamiliton Simply because he's locked dwn for several years at 6mil. SHATTENKIRK on the other hand is UFA coming up , with comparables ,and cap increasing, he will likely get in the area of 6.5-7mil on a 5 year deal or more.

Im not sure if The blues would be interestedin JVR though. I know Calgary would be. And I would keep Marner, Matthews, Nylander, Reilly, Kadri all untouchables.

Well for starters that's not a good offer Landeskog, that'll get rejected pretty quickly. Also not a good deal either for Hamilton, that also will be declined.

jesus, you don't think that enough for Landie? (hehe see that pun? ) I scoffed at it from a leafs perspective haha. Gardiner has more points than landiscog this season (25 to 23, yes gardiner has played ten more games) but wow has landescog been bad. gardiner is a 2-3 dman, rychel has 2/ 3 line potential and a first is a first. I think that's too much for landescog. I like Landie, good player, but he isn't an allstar.

Leafs aren't trading away there 1st and 2nd Rd picks in a rebuild year still. Makes no sense

Yeah. Leafs aren't done rebuilding, I think they need to find a D and could do it through trade or free agent. That being said they have to try to get a D with their first or one of their seconds this year. One over achieving year has ruined a lot of teams plans before and I don't think this management will fall for it.

Start getting hamiltons 6mill, landeskogs 5.5 or shattenkirk on a 7x7 deal now, if they don't play great (and lots of good players have had that experience in Toronto) then leafs will be stuck with contracts and have to be making tough choices on marner, nylander, brown etc in a cpl years.
