Signing a free agent to a long term contract and then trading that player away so quickly without good reason is bad business for GM's. considering it's EDM, your lucky to sign decent free agents at all, yet you propose this deal which would send a message to future free agents that a long term commitment from the oilers means squat, no loyalty. Also, EDM must add a lot to make this fair.

Saul said it perfectly, except from what if seen people say on TSN, edmonton is definitely a team people would be willing to make. Brand new shiny arena, up and coming team, oh and mcdavid? Ya if I'm a player and could crack the roster I'm trying to come here lol. Not being biased. Obvs there are other teams I'd go to before but Edmonton is definitely up there.

Oilers will be higher on UFAs list now than anytime in the last 25 years, but it's true that it's bad business to move on from a guy that made that kind of commitment to you so early. It hasn't gone as well as fans or lucic thought it would but a lot of guys struggle first year of a monster contract because they're trying to do too much rather than just be the guy that they were when the team wanted them. I think the lucic deal is going to look really bad in years 5,6 and 7 but they should get a few decent season outta him first. As for the trade, Carolina doesn't touch that offer with a Chara length stick.

Kadri is extremely valuable, sure Chucky is on the up but kadri has done way more and he's way more dynamic. Chucky before this year and the later half of last looked like a bust!
