From St. Louis : pietrangelo

St. Louis frees some space to sign shattenkirk by down grading pietrangelo to ceci but adds 2 solid prospects and if Lazar don't pan out the still have anot extra 1st rounder to fall back on and can flip Lazar for something else

Ottawa gets an upgrade to solidify it's defence core.

How does Ottawa make the salaries work on that defense? They mortgage their future for Pietrangelo. That seems like too much and I don't think you trade Pietrangelo even if it means 4 good pieces come back. You trade Pietrangelo if you're getting Hedman or Byfuglien back and even then you think twice.

Ceci is half his salary already. And ottawa has cap space. Plus if worst comes to worst just trade macarthur or buy out his contract and the salary works out fine.

Rocket Richard you should probably bring yourself up to date bud. While pietrangelo may be what I'll say is top 10 not top 5 Karlsson is still a massive over payment on his own seeing as how he is the best defenseman in the league so no thanks.

That being said you also have to look at 2 scenarios why this is good for St. Louis. 1 - Vegas draft protection
2 - they don't have the cap space to keep both pietrangelo and shattenkirk and will ultimately have to make a choice between the 2 or risk losing shattenkirk for nothing in off season, they will not get a max return like this on shattenkirk either due to his Ufa status in off season. At least this way they get a top 4 defenceman at half the price 2 top end prospectso and a 1st round selection with the cap needed to resign shattenkirk.

Way to go guys. Way to defend the Sens. I like it and I'm a Hawks fan. How many times have the Sens given more for what came back to them. They always have given just value or better. WTG Senskill, sens1, minkl1, Hoff68. I like the trade. Pietrangelo is an ok defence on a very good team that's struggling. Karlsson is a great defence on an average team. None of the 2 won the the cup but Karlsson has produced way more in any way shape or form. If Ottawa ever trades Karlsson it would either be the end of them or they would probably get a more than Duchene would get you. Ottawa is not that stupid. I think they will be wise this time around and not give too much of their future. I believe they will part with one of the 2 top ones but not both.
