He's not top 5 god. Weber, Doughty, Petro, Suter, Valasic, Seabrook, S. Jones, Eklblad, Hedman and Hamonic are all better defensively.

VB of your examples 7 of them are all-around defenseman, not what are considered defensive. Vlasic is the best defensive defenseman in the league.

Tanev is a great shot surpressor, can log big minutes and play against other teams top lines but no way is he a top 5 defensive dman. Not even close.

Van needs a rebuild! Why would you trade away a 1st rd pick for Landeskog? Especially if it falls in the top 5.. they're better off to move Tanev out for picks or prospects not more dead weight..
