Reasons -
Calgary needs a RW, Columbus needs a C. Both players are 26 years old so there’s no age gap. Monahan has more offensive upside, Bjorkstrand has more defensive upside, it balances out.

Value wise it seems pretty good, maybe even a tad high from Calgary.

I’d probably rather Bjorkstrand based on recent performance, contract and age, but that 1st is a question mark so if Columbus thinks it could be good then I think they do it.

No way Calgary adds it would have to be the other way around with Columbus adding a first.

The age difference is only 6 months. Columbus would be getting a center who's scored 20+ goals every year but one (last year when he was playing injured) and 30+ four times.

Bjorkstrand has gotten more points than Monahan exactly once. Last year (again when Monahan was playing injured) . Most other years Bjorkstrand's goal scoring and point production were nowhere near Monahan's.

Bjorkstrand does have a better career plus/ minus but he was playing on a defense first team too.

Centres are inherantly more valuable, no way calagary pays the first.

If Columbus was wanting to trade winger for center I think straight up it would be close. Bjorkstrand is getting better while Monohans last couple seasons have been in the decline.
