So two options and what do leafs add if at all?
Tor - JVR
Stl - shat

Tor - kadri, dermott
Stl- shat.

Leafs have to add on both imo, but don't think they have the pieces to do so without using draft picks which they don't want to give up. Shatty to Toronto doesn't sound like a good plan to me.

I really don't like either from a leafs perspective. I'll let tankie talk for the blues perspective, but in both, Toronto is really just a puck moving defenceman who's going to walk as a UFA, as he's made it clear that he wants to WIN NOW.

Plus, we have Nikita Zaistev, Morgan Rielly, Jake Gardiner and Connor Carrick who are puckmovers, I don't really see a need for another. I'd be more inclined into trading van Riemsdyk for a shutdown defenceman who can complement either Rielly or Gardiner.

I'm not saying the value isn't there - cause JVR is probably going to be moved, but I just don't Shattenkirk should be the target that the Leafs go after.

JVR for Shattenkirk probably isn't too far off. Not sure if it's a move either want to make though.

Shatt prob wants 6.5 per year, straight up for JVR. 6'2 and 30 goals for $4.25 is hard to pass up for a contender with defensive depth, especially for a UFA that's headed for a big raise.

JVR and mid-prospect for Shattenkirk and conditional pick.

Why would the leafs give away JVR for Shatty who's going to bolt July 1? Leafs are no where near playoff contenders, so why give away JVR?

If Shatty wants to be a leaf, sign him July 1 and Keep JVR to peddle elsewhere.
