It doesn't make the slightest sense for the Oilers to trade for a pending UFA rental who wants 6+ mil a year. They can't afford to resign him with McDavid, Nurse, and Draisaitl all needing extensions soon.

If the oilers did this they could use the veteran to teach the young guys and could use the leader ship. I do believe that the oilers have 2 years before they're young guys new to be resign so the oilers can trade him for a 1st or a rookie or both. That's what I think and why I posted this trade.

Why trade for Ladd tho? Give up two players and cross your fingers that he signs? Either that or try and sign him without giving up anything in the off-season. Which makes more sense?

I'm sure the jets will trade Ladd this season. So if Ladd gets traded the team that gets him will probably sign him. I'm sure the oilers could talk to him to make sure he will resign. I think the oilers should get some veteran players and I haven't heard of any other veteran players with good talent. Maybe the oilers shouldn't make the trade I posted but I think they should look into Ladd.

Ladd would be a great fit for all those young, immature party animals in edmonton . But doubt he'd resign.
