IMO it's the most Toronto should pay to get Staal, but it's not nearly enough from Carolina's perspective. Which is why the trade will not happen.

@THEGR81 Agreed. Canes would want the first too. And at this price I'd be shocked if Toronto agrees. Maybe even Reilly.

I still stand by a trade that looks something like this:

TOR: Phaneuf, Kadri, Lupul, prospect (Gauthier?), and 2nd
CAR: E Staal, J Staal, mid level pick (4th?)

I'm not quite sure about how this fits under the cap, but I think that TOR should be about $1M under and CAR should be about $4M under.
