What if it is lander or pitlick + 2nd rd pk for laich?
This reliefs cap pressure on Caps and gives oilers a 2nd line centre. Laich is expensive $4.5 m for 3 more seasons + he has been hurt for 2 seasons now. However, I think he is a good solid player.

I don't think mike green is a top paring dman anymore if you added john carlson or karl alzner (instead of mike green) oilers would consider.but not a bad trade propsal.

What if oilers trade lander or pitlick (Caps choose) + 2nd rd pk for laich?

Caps get cap space and a decent return. Oilers get a 2nd line centerman. Win win.

The Laich idea isn't terrible (tho I see Laich as a bit of an iffy 2nd liner, he's more of a 3rd liner) and given his cap hit and the fact that the Caps are exploring moving him, I think the pick would either be removed, later than the 2nd round, or a later pick be coming along with Laich. Cap relief requires some kind of bonus to it.

The Caps can easily fix that logjam at defence by trading Orlov to Dallas for the rights to Cody Eakin. With the aquisition of Spezza, Eakin would be best used to get a defenceman.
