A couple ideas for Philly

Lecavalier (retain 1.5 mil) and a 2nd for Ekholm

Grossmann for Franson

Sign Stempniak for 2.25 mil, Hall for 750k

Play Read at LW on top line

As much as I like Grossmann, I'd rather have Franson. Pair him with stay at home defensemen like Schenn or Schultz to make up for him taking offensive chances. Grossmann would give the Leafs more of a defensive presence than Franson. He is also among the league leaders in hits and blocked shots, so he plays well in his own zone, something Franson isn't accustomed to. The reason the Flyers should jump at this is because Franson is a RFA that should make about the same cap hit as Grossmann (3.5 mil) and this will be Timonen's last year. Next year Franson would be the team's #1 or #2 scoring defender, depending how Streit does with his age. Try to get Ekholm from the Preds, might even cost a 1st round pick. Let him play one more year in AHL so he can play every day. Read is one of the fastest skaters on the team and scored 22 goals and 40 points on the 3rd line. Put him with Giroux and Voracek and those numbers increase. Stempniak would replace Read on the 3rd line.

Read - Giroux - Voracek
Umberger - Schenn - Simmonds
Raffl - Couturier - Stempniak
Rinaldo - Hall - Akeson
Rosehill* Cousins*

Timonen - MacDonald
Streit - Coburn
Franson - Schenn
Schultz*

If toronto trades Franson ( in a package) I would assume they would be looking for a top 6 forward back in return

as much as I hate franson, I believe grossman and his gross contract would be even worse

I wouldn't be shocked if Franson stays with the Leafs. But if he does move I could see Nonis getting a D-man back

Franson and Schenn on a line together would be ridiculous. #1 and #3 in the league in hits makes one hell of a checking defensive pairing. That's 542 hits combined! That's more than some teams' entire defense!
