COL - Bowen Byram and Conditional 2024 2nd
CGY - Elias Lindholm (50% Salary Retained)

Condition : If the Avalanche advance to the Conference Finals, the draft pick turns into their 2024 1st.

Contracts :
Bowen Byram - 3.85 @ 2 UFA
Elias Lindholm - 2.42 @ 1 UFA (50% Retention)

Reasons : Colorado needs another skilled forward after placing Landeskog and Lehkonen on LTIR, and Nichushkin on NHLPA Player Assistance Program. Flames need to get younger and if they trade Noah Hanifin they’d need a Top 4 LHD replacement.

Cons : Bowen Byram has been quite injury prone through his short career playing 130 regular season games and 27 playoff games in 4 seasons. Elias Lindholm is a UFA and isn’t performing like his usual self but you could argue that he doesn’t have the best linemates on a bad team.

I think I undersold Lindholm a little with Robertson and a 2nd but I don’t think this is close. Lindholm is a career 60 point guy. The only way I could see Colorado entertaining this is if they think Byrams injuries are a big problem.

This is hard. Lindholm got Huberdeau right after a 115 point season, and that was a disaster. Byram had high hopes, but has had his fair share of injuries.
Lindholm wont get any better, just hope he can get back to where he was. Byram is 7 years younger and if he could stay healthy, could be a great player. or could keep getting injured and benched.
I kinda like this risk vs/ risk proposal.
