Colorado Trades
Iginla

Ottawa Trades
Lazar

Iginla would just fit under the Ottawa Cap.

Lazar needs to get out of Ottawa and will play full time in Colorado.

Thoughts ?

Finally a decent trade and home for Lazar!

Good trade for both sides!

No from Ottawa, why trade a 21 year old player with potential for 20 games of a guy who won't help them (I love Iggy but he's too old and slow to benefit them really) .

Much rather them trade him for a second or third than that.

Teams on the bubble of making a Stanley Cup run make trades like this McRazzle, Washington traded FForsberg for Erat a few years back to try and give them that push to win it all, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't but teams do make trades like that, Lazar just isn't working out playing in Ottawa yes maybe Colorado could add a 3rd Round Pick in the deal but they might not have to with Ottawa looking for an Iginla type winger.

Yeah I don't see this being good at all for Ottawa? Agree with mcrazzle. Lazar is 21 and iggy is what 38? Literally makes no sense.

I think Pinball makes a fair point. Yeah maybe add a third to give OTT some youth in the trade.

Well, teams don't really make trades like this. The Erat trade you are referencing had Erat traded at 31 years old, not 38. And sure, there are plenty of trades that happen like this but given the current market and any knowledge of Ottawa as an organization and you know they wouldn't do this.

Got to look at this as Lazar is worth nothing right now and Ottawa gets something useful for now.

Don't forget that this is a weak draft year and a high probability exists that a 2nd or 3rd rounder won't ever make the NHL.

Get what you can for him right now.
Hopefully Colorado can give him the chance he needs to get into the NHL on a full time basis. And hopefully Iggy pots 4 GWG's consecutively in the first round of the playoffs to bury the leafs.

Both teams win.

Not to mention that these trades, when they occur are to add that final piece that you believe put you over the top as a favourite. Ottawa isn't a guarantee to be in the playoffs at this point with their standings and injuries. Dumb move. Better to trade a pick for iggy (3-4th) and wait to make lazar for an equal prospect or 2nd at the draft.

Lazar is young and has plenty time to get his stride back. He is far from being worth nothing. You need to check your head and study up on what real trade value is fair Trade4all. Like I've said before 1 bad season doesn't define a player, if it did, landeskog would be worth no more than a 2nd rounder or an average prospect. Stop trying to downplay certain players value and raise the value of others higher than it should be. Lazar will fetch a 1st or 2nd or he stays in Ottawa.

Teams have stopped making trades like this because of the Forsberg/ Erat trade. Dorion keeps saying they are willing to give Lazar time. Chances are if they could have sent him back to the AHL they would have by now. They know his value, if a team was willing to offer a similar player in a similar situation that would be the only real option.
