This is a typical Trade a contract away "Hartnell" for more Cap Space for the Jackets and 2 for 1 Draft Pick swaps for the Leafs.

Thoughts?

The Jackets don't need cap space as bad as everyone thinks. By the end of the season they'll have the 9th most space in the league apparently.

Rumour has it Saad is on the block if its true most Teams would be in on it, The Leafs having a ton of Cap Space would put them in a position of not Cap dumping on the Jackets in a deal like most Teams would have to do.

how do salary cap and attendance have anything to do with each other? oh, because hartnell is paid 4.5 or whatever million the fans aren't coming? Stupid, but that's what i expect from you.

I see his reasoning in the not filling stands thing, salary cap isn't an issue but Owner money might be.

That aside, both trades are bad.

And Saad is not on the block if you actually read anything of value about the situation. Torts benches guys all the time, why would they trade a 24 yr old core winger right now? Stupidity.

If you think this leafs management would want to give up young assets for hartnell you haven't been paying attention for the last year. They have 3 veterans (Laich, Greening, Michalek) in similar situations, decent money owing, on the wrong side of 30 sitting on the Marlies to make room for guys like soshnikov and possibly bracco down the road. They didn't just piss off guys they have here by burrying them to turn around and get another. The saad one seems better based on his age, however scoring forwards is not a spot the leafs need to address. It's obviously Defense and maybe a bit of depth in net behind Andersen.
