Ottawa is the wrong team to target. They aren't a Scheifele away from making the playoffs or contending in two years. They need to hang onto their futures.

The Jets wouldn't want just futures but a top line center or a top pairing d-man for Scheifele.

No thanks from Ottawa. I’m down to move 7OA for a Fiala type player, but not Pinto and two firsts for a player we don’t need. Pinto is a future 2/ 3C who should be held onto at all costs.

I realize they're not the ideal trade partner and wouldn't have proposed a trade with them but the Send have publicly said they are looking to improve their veteran presence on the team and where they need it are at center, right wing and left defense.
55 keeps their center depth while providing an point a game right handed player. They are set at left defense but probably need a year or two as Sanderson is 19.
The Jets players won't come cheap but will fit specific short term needs and then can either be kept or used to recoup assets at the trade deadline in two years.

The Sens do need help at center and on defense but they're ok at RW with Batherson and Brown.

Scheifele is the wrong guy for them. They're looking for veteran leadership and the last you thing you want for that is a me me guy who's going to be UFA in 2 years times.

Ottawa like to develop through the draft, if they going to sign veteran players, it be through free agency. Ottawa won’t give up their picks.
