New Jersey - Keith Kinkaid + 5th round pick 2015

New York Islanders - Michael Grabner (1 mil salary ret)

This trade can somewhat work out for both teams. The Islanders can get a reasonable and good (yet somewhat unproven) backup for stud starter Jaroslav Halak, plays they get a draft pick in a deep draft for holding back some salary. Also Grabner's real salary is 5 mil but his cap hit is 3 so the Isles will probs hold back 2mil in actual salary and 1/0.5 mil on cap hit.

The Devils on the other hand get a guy who has an immense amount of skill, but has not been able to show it since his rookie season (injuries and pushed down the depth chart). If he can turn it around for New Jersey and hopefully get back to 20 goals (30 is a pipe dream) than they have a guy who is still relatively young scoring for them on a regular basis (something NJ really needs).

This is also a good trade for the players as, here's why:

Kinkaid; He will never get to start maybe more than 15 games while being Cory Schneiders backup (barring any long term injuries) because Schneider is an absolute stud in net and can start many games consecutively, as seen earlier this season when he started like the first 22 games or something for NJ. If traded to Long Island (Brooklyn now) he can get into more starts and can grow into a better player since Halak is prone to both inconsistency and injuries, as seen in past seasons.

Grabner: Unless he pulls it together this season, it will be the last one in which he earns good money. As a player Grabner has top 6 talent; his goal scoring, speed and useful at times on penalty kills, but he is prone to inconsistency + injuries. I think a trade out of his current environment with the Islanders, which he's gotten too comfertable playing in as depth guy, will give him the wake up call he needs. Ray Shero can also tell him this is his "last chance" something similar to what Poile did with Ribeiro. Grabner's way of utilizing his speed the Devils who are trying to change from being a slow-old team.

Thoughts and suggestions are welcomed :)

Winner winner, chicken dinner. I'll take it. Isles would probably have to add the pick instead of NJ

Thanks bro :D! and yeah I was thinking that too. It's just that since Kinkaid's not too experienced and the Isles are holding back salary so that's why it was the other way around.

That's true, but the chances that Grabner's injuries will return are pretty high, knowing that, I doubt the Devils would give up a promising backup and come away empty handed, they'll want something else

That does make sense
