Plan for the Flyers:

1.) Need a true top line LW
2.) Trade Lecavalier to free cap and allow Schenn to get minutes at C

The Flyers are missing that top LW, and I think they have shown that they can be contenders. The Flyers are one of the few teams Bobby Ryan is showing interest in. My guess is they trade for him before this year's deadline. Here's a scenario:

Senators: Bobby Ryan
Flyers: 1st round pick

Senators can acquire a late round 1st, or risk losing him for nothing in UFA.

Lecavalier is sort of the odd man out on the roster. Schenn signed a two year bridge deal to play C, but with Vinny that limits his opportunity. The Oilers are looking for a 2nd line C and I'd rather do the same thing with Draisaitl that I'd do with Laughton; don't rush it. So here's a proposal without trying to change too much of the Oilers center pieces:

Oilers: Jeff Petry, Mitch Moroz, 2016 3rd
Flyers: Vinny Lecavalier (retain 750k), Nicklas Grossmann

Vinny could play 2nd line with former teammate Purcell and skilled winger Perron. That is a pretty good 2nd line. Grossmann can replace Petry as a 5th defenseman who plays well in his own zone. Flyers get a better puck mover on the blueline, free up cap space, and get some much needed depth at LW. Trade helps both teams from what I see.

After all said and done, Flyers left with 480k in cap space, Oilers left with 932.5k

Flyers new lines:

Ryan - Giroux - Voracek
Umberger - Schenn - Simmonds
Raffl - Couturier - Read
Rinaldo - White - Akeson

Streit - Coburn
MacDonald - Petry
Del Zotto - Schenn

1.) 22 Sep 2014
The Sens can get more than a late 1st for Ryan.
How about Emery for a 7th because you might as well get something for him, he is a UFA next year

2.) 23 Sep 2014
Vinny isn't worth that much philly couldn't pay someone to take him this summer so why would edm give up a 3/4 dman and solid prospect and pick

3.) 23 Sep 2014
Philly has to add. Not too sure it's substantially more given Ryan's contract status.
