I have said all along I still believe Marner resigns with The Leafs, but if for arguments sakes he isn't and Vegas is the team that plans on signing him this is my proposal.
Toronto Trades
Marner
McMann
Vegas Trades
Hertl
Before anyone says but Vegas can sign him after July 1 for nothing, this is about an 8 year contract over a 7 year contract, The AAV would be less for Vegas, plus Vegas will have to clear cap space to fit Marner in that's why Hertl goes to Toronto.
I truly believe when it's all said and done Marner resigns, but if he doesn't as promised by Chickenfoot I will be off this site until September.
Thoughts ?

- I suppose it's possible that VGK might value an extra year enough to trade him before the deadline, but I can't see that being a "must" for them.
- Centers are tough to find this off-season, so if Hertl is moved, they could get a good return for him. He has good size, and is coming off a 32 goal/ 61 point season.
- if VGK really does value the 8th year for Marner, it takes mid-level pick.
- if the leafs want Hertl, it's going to take a package to get it, likely in picks or prospects, to help VGK clear cap space, which is the only reason they'd trade Hertl.
- the leafs are very low on both picks and prospects, and are more likely to replace departing players in Free Agency with the cap money that will be freed up from the departure of Marner. and possibly Tavares? (I still think Tavares re-signs, but is forced into a hometown discount well below what he could get if he's willing to put his new home on the market. )
- PINBALL: Marner was photographed househunting in Vegas this week, so it looks like you'll be using a burner profile till September 1st eh? (Just kidding. )

If Vegas is high on Marner and they value that additional year. I imagine a sign and trade is done and the Leafs will get a nice package in return. End of an era in TO and I'm looking forward to what Trev has planned for this team as we lose one of our regular season high end performers. The Tavares signing was a welcomed surprise to see.
