1st Round Pick 2023 (Boston's Pick)

Nothing complex and Kerfoot and Holl would either have Detroit on their 10 team trade list, or agree to go to Detroit otherwise it isn't happening, but Perron was great with O'Reilly in St.Louis so he would fit in and moving WNylander on the 3rd line with Jarnkrok and Kampf makes the 3rd Line better as well.
Detroit just looking to the future and getting another 1st Round Pick for a 34 year old player in the big picture is something Yzerman would do 10 out of 10 times where his team is at this point.

Putting our leading goal scorer on the 3rd line where he would be asked to play a more defensive game in attempts to shut down the top two lines of the opposing team would blow up in our face. Only players that should move between the top three lines are O'Reilly and Jarnkrok because they can play both sides of the puck tremendously.

EDM & the leafs made some great moves at the deadline.

Both look like they’ll regret not getting a goalie.

I don't know about the value or reasoning on this trade. Bertuzzi would've been the perfect add, it's a shame that Leafs couldn't grab him.

CASUAL: perhaps about Bert, but goaltending is magnified in the playoffs. Neither EDM or the leafs have adequately addressed their biggest weaknesses.

Perhaps it’s just me, but what does it matter how many big moves you make anywhere else if your goalies are sieves?

I agree with you Chickenfoot, however, who would you have liked to see added for Goalies? What was available? Maybe Gibson?

Besides Vaislasky and Flury what goalie in the NHL has a better playoff Pedigree then Murray? The leafs lost out by not getting a 2nd line LW that was there biggest need going into the deadline and the biggest need going out.

SOSA: Saros would have been #1, and given the rebuild and change of GM that had been announced, there’s a decent chance he would have been available. Besides your Gibson suggestion, Varlamov has a far better save% than anyone in EDM or TOR. He probably could have been had for a 3rd.

Murray and Campbell looked like 2 guys that don’t belong in the league Saturday night. These two teams blew it by not even grabbing a depth G at the deadline.

I think you’re right EBS. A buyout would range from 1.1M - 2.6M over 8 years.

EDM has such an ugly history of buyouts & withholding bad money on awful deals. Ideally they can trade it with sweeteners, but a buyout for that bum Campbell certainly seems likely.

Yeah I don’t think they can do 8 years it wouldn’t be a smart move. But maybe pick up a goalie at next years deadline then buy him out with 3 years left if his season goes badly. They have Lucic and Sekera dead money coming off the books then in 2 years Neal will be off.
How long were the Suter, Parise buyouts? Those were a bad move.

Yes because 1 game defines a NHL career. A superstar goalie like Vais, Patrick Roy, Hasek, Brodoure, Plant, etc probably gets pulled 2 times out of 15 games played. Absolute consistency is impossible as a goalie it is less visible in players because a mistake doesn’t immediately result in a goal like it does for a goalie. Compare it to Golf tiger woods can go out and win a tournament then not make qualifiers the next. I’ll take a 2017 playoff Matt Murray over Saros any time of the week.

Suter & Parise buyouts last another 5 years. OUCH!

Two more seasons at cap hits of 7.3M (EACH! ), plus 3 more seasons after that at .883M each. (Can you imagine Billy Guerin's conversation with the owner that day? They'd have to repaint the office. ) : )

They barely saved any cap space because I’m pretty sure there deals would have been done after next season.
