Hypothetical situation here. Say Ottawa can't get going and ends up with the 2023 1st overall selection this year and DeBrincat decides NOT to return to Ottawa, and since he's an RFA they tender him so not to lose him for nothing. That being said, they decide just before draft day to trade him. How's this sound.

OTT : DeBrincat, Formenton, Branstrom, and a 2024 1st (Top 3 protected)

Team with 2nd or 3rd pick : the 2nd or 3rd overall pick also in 2023.

With the 1st overall Ottawa takes Bedard and with the 2nd or 3rd overall Ottawa takes Mishkov

Ottawas new forward lineup

Tkachuk Bedard Mishkov
Stutzle Norris Batherson
Grieg Pinto Giroux
Watson Boucher Joseph

Could you imagine Bedard and Michkov on the same line with Tkachuk terrorizing goalies while the other 2 rip things up?

I know Mishkov is signed KHL till 2026 which is totally fine because Ottawa is in a very unique situation to be save to draft him and wait with the system they currently have.

Anyway, I for one would love this, because if DeBrincat don't sign they need to recover a major high pick for him as that 7th overall they gave could have been used to get Savoie which is no small loss by any means. You don't make that up with a mid to late 1st or any average middle 6 veteran, especially when you also lost a high 2nd and a high 3rd in top of that to get him. Those 3 picks are easily near the equivalent of a top 5 pick in 2023 and adding Formenton, and a 2024 1st easily up that value to top 3 with Branstrom being a sweetener to get it done with no push back.

Anyway rant over lol what's everyone think?

Why would Ottawa pass on Fantilli?

Because they would have already drafted Bedard 1st overall and would need a sniper to compliment Bedard which Michkov is in spades. Plus Michkov, Fantilli, and Bedard are all so closely matched up that you can't go wrong with any of the 3, though in terms of the sens needs, I got Mishkov slightly over Fantilli in priority. Ottawa has a lot of playmaker types already with Batherson, Norris, Giroux, and Stutzle. They also have their rough tough guns in Tkachuk, Grieg, and dare I say Boucher. But all they really got for true snipers is DeBrincat who may choose not to return, so getting Mishkov to possibly replace or join him would be ideal for Ottawa.

And like I said before if they somehow got both Bedard and Michkov it would be like having Crosby, Ovi, and K. Tkachuck or McDavid, Matthews, M. Tkachuk, or Gretzky, Lemieux, Messier all in their prime on the same like.

The all round playmaking phenom Bedard, the insane mesh finding speedy sniper Mishkov, and the gritty, in your face, not afraid to battle for the dirt, B. Tkachuk. that line would be extremely intimidating.

And to boot, other teams would be focusing so much on trying to shut them down it would open things up huge for Stutzle, Norris, Batherson, Pinto, Grieg, and Giroux. And with Tkachuk out there with the 2 phenoms, you could rest easy knowing he's got their backs.
