This Trade opens up $2.825mil in Cap Space this Season + 2.45mil in 2024 for VAN and provides a Swedish D-Partner for Ekman-Larsson now & for RD-Prospect Filip Johansson in the Future + a 3rd Round Pick for retaining $3mil on Myers in 2024 (much better than a Buy Out)

VAN desperately need this Cap Space available next season to re-sign JT Miller, Bo Horvat & Andrei Kuzmenko if he plays well

Or better yet Lewis & Ruzicka if CGY signs Paul Stastny, Johan Larsson & Jake Virtanen (Alternate options being Evan Rodrigues, Derek Steppan, Evgeny Svechnikov & Sam Steel)

Also, if VAN doesn't want to retain on Myers to open up even more Cap Space, they can send the 3rd RD Pick + add another Pick to a 3rd Team to take on the Cap Hit; like ARI, BUF or ANA.

Should also mention this is a Trade similar to Oliver Bjorkstrand to Seattle for just a 3rd & 4th to clear space

Would do the same sending Kylington to COL for Samuel Girard, so they could re-sign Kadri, but need another Playmaking Top-6 Guy, so Garland would be more ideal

Sure, is over paid and too expensive @5.25, but at $2.1625 he’s reasonable. He brings more to a Team than just Scoring. The Leadership, Locker Room & On Ice Presence are intangible skills. The Grit, Physicality, Fighting and Protection he brings are unmatched in the NHL

Out of the 328 NHL Defensemen, only 32 Scored more Goals than Kylington, which means he’s in the 90th Percentile for Scoring Defensemen. Of those 32, only 3 had less ATOI than Kylington (18:09). Most play 22-25 minutes per game on the 1st D-Pairing or #1 PP unit whereas Kylington does not

Kylington was 10th/ 328 in +/ - as well, so to say nobody would be interested in him is just crazy

BTW Kerfoot & Holl are underrated. Try finding a Veteran Winger (non RFA) who can put up 50 points and NOT INCLUDING THE POWER PLAY

Try finding a Bigger & Better RD with a Positive +/ - for $2mil or less. Luke Schenn had a very good year, but it wasn’t long ago that he was playing in the AHL.

Lucic is a cap dump. Kerfoot and Klyington hold value. Holl is just Meh every team needs players like him.

Wish Lucic would just retire, but if he hasn’t already, he probably won’t at this point, right!?

I still think Lucic could be swapped for another not so great player (Nick Foligno) or Player who’s Team wants to get out of their contract & Term (Tanner Pearson) and certainly @50% retained = $2.625mil (can’t be retained any further)

If push came to shove, CGY would probably need to compensate a Team to take him to open up Cal Space but unless we Trade for an Expensive Star, CGY has no need to do that just yet.
