Mtl- gallagher-harris-ylonen-1st pick 2023 top 10 protected-2nd pick 2023

Anh- comptois

Kinda a lot , but gallaghers as a bad contract, but still a decent 3rd line player, with character and good work ethic, good for a young team who have cap space

is Comtois really worth that much?

Get rides off gallagher contract is the main point of the trade.

Comtois is only worth a 2nd or low 3rd IMO.

Holly you would think Mtl would be getting Trevor Zegras for the amount of value going to Anaheim. Comptois might get Gallagher straight up. Gally still has value based on his intangibles and his style of play. Lots of gm would give a 3 rd pick for him with no retention. That’s about how much si value Comptois at this point a second to third round pick,

Comtois is easily worth more than a 3rd. And no sane GM would give anything up for Gallagher with his contract.

Calgary and Montreal fans: would you do Gallagher for Monahan?

Simple Answer: CGY says Heck No. Gallagher isn’t worth $6.5milx5yrs, we’d rather take the risk on Monahan this season and use his $6.375 for better options for the next 4yrs

My opinion though is Gallagher probably just had a bad year on a terrible team, so could put up 30G/ 82GP again, but unless he came 50% retained, we wouldn’t be interested in taking the risk. Statsny & Kessel can likely be had for less on 1-2yr terms = substantially less risk.

Calgary says no thanks. Trade him to where he's from, edmonton. ;)

Besides what Trevor said Calgary is going to need cap space to resign Lindholm in 2 years and he'll be due for a big raise.

Monahan’s future is in serious doubt. Any trade for him that doesn’t include compensation for dumping his contract is not credible. He is not an asset that brings back an asset. He is a liability that requires assets to move.

@Chickenfoot Monahan still could rebound and there are teams that desperately need help at center and may be willing to gamble on him.

I’d rather have Monahan than Jonathan Toews @10.5m

Sounds like Mony’s rehab is going good. Will be be ready for the start of the season or how long might he be out!?

I'd rather do a Monahan, Valamaki & maybe a 3rd or 4th round pick for Toews with Chicago eating 3.0 MIll. Toews will be like Perry & Pavelski & know how to elevate his game when needed & show why he used to be elite. I can see Sutter going to him a lot late in important games as he wins faceoffs.
Chicago can get a decent return if Monahan rebounds at the trade deadline. Perfect fit.

Make it 50% retained on Toews or better yet swap the 3rd/ 4th with a 1st for Patrick Kane 33-50% retained

Valimaki is still going to be an NHL Regular one day soon here and Monahan is Young enough to rebound. Jen doesn’t hold much value, but would need to be included for Cap Reasons.

MOX - I stand by what I said. The best thing about Monahan’s contract is that it’s over after this year.

Injuries just piled up on a good player…it happens. I haven’t heard one promising thing about his health prospects. I wish the kid all the best, but by any objective measure his ability to play again isn’t a slam dunk. For his sake I hope he can play again. No one is “trading for” Monahan to play as a top 3C anymore.
