Guadreau would get no more then a 3rd round pick In a sign and trade what a joke. They could literally wait 3 weeks and sign him for free. Guadreau is gonna leave Calgary and they will be left with nothing. Or maybe he will actually resign but you’re out to lunch if you think he will return anything of value to Calgary. The oilers wouldn’t even pay the leafs a 3rd for a sign and trade with Hyman at 8 years. Why you may ask? Well let’s see a GM like me doesn’t have an IQ below 50 so he knows hmm why in my right mind would I give anything of value for a player when I can get him for free in 2 weeks. Every team know this. Calgary has zero leverage on where GUADREAU “Wants” to go. Calgary doesn’t choose where Guadreau signs only Guadreau does. So boom Guadreau chooses NJ. New Jersey calls up Calgary hey I want that extra year and I’ll give you a 3rd to get it done. Calgary then counters with this ridiculous offer then. New Jersey laughs and instead just waits a extra couple of weeks.

Johnny Gaudreau's rights are worth no more than a 4th round pick.

Plus Gaudreau under contract isn’t worth that.

If NJ makes that ridiculous offer Calgary will be the ones to laugh and say you can keep your pick and pay him a million more per year.

prohockeyrumors.com says Calgary's offer to Gaudreau is 8 years at $8.5 million per year. That's a big relief, I was worried Treliving had offered significantly more than that.

That's 68 million in total. It'd take 9.714 million and change per year for another team to match the total dollars on a 7 year contract.

IOW, a team trading for the extra year could give Johnny the same contract and save themselves $1.214 million dollars per year.

8.5? That’s it? Lmfao I could easily see him getting 9-10.50mil in free agency

Yeah no doubt he can get more in free agency but means the extra year would save a team even more than 1.214 million/ year.

IMO he'll sign with NJ over Philly simply because NJ is likely going to be pretty good very soon and should remain so for years to come. Philly is pretty much the exact opposite, old, getting worse every year, in need of a rebuild and likely to be bad for years before things start to turn around.

Boston would probably interest him too but I see him picking NJ or even Philly over them.

Gotta take into account 8.5 mil over 8 years is the same total money as 9.714 over 7 years too.
