I read a trade proposal that thought was interesting. Can't see it happening but I liked it.
WPG
Scheifele
NYR
Lafreniere
Schneider
1RD pick.

The 1rd pick might be a little too much. But it's not bad.
Jets could sign Dubois long term.
And if they could some how get rid of Wheeler. That would be a bonus.

Or with only 2 years left on his contract. Could the Jets just buyout Wheeler's contract?

I think that's a massive overpayment .

I agree with Sosa.

I personally would have no interest in Lafreniere, but the value is close for a PPG 1C on a bargain contract for another 2 seasons. That's about the rarest thing in hockey.

Schneider looks good and appears to have top 4 potential, Lafreniere doesn't look like much and as a left shot winger doesn't fill a need for the Jets. And a late first is a late first.

So, while it looks like a lot it really isn't for a player the Jets have no reason to move. If Scheifele asks for a trade, that's a different story.

But I do agree with Sosa and Toronto. I can see how it looks like a massive overpayment by the Jets.

I agree with Sosa and Toronto, it's a massive overpayment by NY.

I'd like to know what everyone thinks is fair value for a PPG 1C for the last 6 consecutive seasons on a sweetheart contract for two more years is worth.

It could be an interesting discussion.

I’d say that’s worth a boat load. Scheifele seems to be viewed in like the 4th or 5th tier top NHLers. Maybe not fair but I don’t see him getting that back. Different D prospect maybe? Zac Jones looks like a top D prospect too.

I think last years playoffs really showed the player and person he is. Not only did he skate from the O zone to D zone to dirty hit a player but he also played played the victim in the situation and also denied any wrongdoing and sincere apologies. In my opinion no team would pay full value for him because if you get a player of his level you expect him to represent and be the head of your franchise. Not sure any franchise would be willing to taint they’re name for him. Not surprise Jets wants him out.

Well we definitely know that PPG 1C's are in high demand (well any 1C really) and with his contract and production, Scheifele would absolutely be at the upper end of returns if traded.

So, the offer above by Muzza is likely a reasonable place to start at least as far as Schneider and a 1st value wise. As I said, Laf doesn't add much, so there would probably need to be a prospect/ additional pick added and you would probably get the Jets talking. But it is a reasonable start point.

Overall, the greatest possibility is that he isn't traded as no matter what the Jets get in return it wouldn't equal Scheifele's value. Consistent PPG 1C's are just too rare to give away for anything other than a perfect fit in value and team need.

Rumors about coke use after that hit too. Could be though I thought the dirty hit was due to roid rage not coke. Then there's all the talk about how he and Wheeler drove Laine out.

Whatever it is there's something wrong with the guy. I wouldn't him on my team, in fact I'd take Evander Kane before him.

@Moxnix Laine drove himself out as the same stuff is happening in Columbus. You’d rather a guy who beats his wife then a 1C (pretty sure half the league is on coke- where do you think Price was) . Says a lot about you.

That said, memarcus a former #1 pick is not an add in. Laf has more value than any prospect in Winnipeg’s system (Laf > Perfetti anyday) .
It’s clear Winnipeg has to make changes which puts them at a disadvantage in terms of negotiations so they would be lucky to get the offer above.

Hockey Dad, I didn't say Laf was an add-in, I said he doesn't add a lot of value as he doesn't play a position of need for the Jets.

You're doing like most fans and placing a huge amount of value on where he was drafted instead of what you should actually be evaluating, how he has progressed. It's 2 years since he was drafted, so his draft position is meaningless and he hasn't progressed much at all. His value is higher to New York than anyone else as he is closer to a bust 1st overall than he is to slam dunk top 6 player that he was hyped to be.

Marginal, offense only, poor skating, left wingers are the easiest of all positions to fill in hockey compared to PPG 1C's which along with top pair RHD is the hardest to fill.

He just doesn't carry much value when you are asking for a consistent PPG 1C on a team friendly contract.

I hope that the Jets don't trade Scheifele or Wheeler until the new head coach has an opportunity to see if they can play in his system. The Jets will never win any trade involving Scheiefle but they should try to get at the very least an NHL ready prospect and a #1 draft pick.

@Memarcus You’re the one who’s unfairly evaluating him as your expecting him to be the next McDavid. He’s underwhelmed but still is producing more than Hischier and Hughes did within their first two years.

That's fine and all Hockey Dad, we all have different opinions. Laf just doesn't fill a need for the Jets. If the Jets are moving their most valuable trade chip it needs to be for players that fill holes.

Winnipeg's valuable trade piece? That isn't Scheifele. Dubois, Connor and Hellebucyk are all worth more than Scheifele.
