I think you’re right, I just read an insider rumour that Smith refused reassignment to Bakersfield. Grumpy Old Man, Bad Attitude or just Not A Team Player!?

He probably doesn't want to end his career by getting lit up a few times in the minors, I'm not shocked. The Oilers find a solid replacement over the next 48 hours, maybe they waive him anyway? He's been injured a lot this year and his play mostly inconsistent.

Probably. Smith's either HOT or NOT and is always dealing with or re-injuring nagging injuries it seems. Would want him as an option for the future/ playoffs, hence waiving and assigning him would be ideal, but if he won't cooperate, what do you do!?

Unless they can land John Gibson out of ANA, they might as well ride Koskinen out and add/ pray on Anton Forsberg, Dustin Tokarski, Calvin Pickard, Casey DeSmith or Spencer Martin, as there aren't many better options worth the acquisition price. They'll have to pick up a better Goalie in the off season, which should have happened last off season.
