Calgary gets a big physical C/ LW rental they can use for the playoffs this year and a decent pick.
Ottawa gets a speedy C/ LW who has 2 more year of term and will be an RFA then.

If it includes the 3rd, maybe, but I think I'd rather have Dube because of the chemistry, his upside and the fact I heard Paul wants close to $3mil/ year and has Zero Playoff Experience.

Derick Brassard or Swede Johan Larsson would be better options at 4C IMO or use Dube +? to try and acquire Zacha, Crouse, Kapanen, Kuraly or Carson Soucy or a rental like Paul Stastny or Ryan Getzlaf instead. Or perhaps even another Swede from Gavle, like Andreas Johnsson or RFA Oskar Lindblom.

Don forget Calgary would also be gaining nearly 1M in cap space. They'd have close to 2M in cap space at the deadline. Enough to pick up a pretty good depth defenseman too.

Understood, so if CGY needed the space for a depth D and couldn’t get Crouse, Larsson or Brassard then Paul would be an option.

Maybe Paul doesn’t want to stay in OTT but I don’t think he’s worth anymore than the $10mil/ 4yrs he has been rumoured to have been offered from OTT. I’d be looking to sign him for $2-2.25m/ yr for 2-3yrs.

Yup, but even if they can't resign him in that range, he'd still be a good rental for this year's playoffs. In that case they'd have another 2.3M cap space (Dube's cap hit) to work with over the summer.

I’m always looking to flip the flip. Don’t like the idea of losing someone to Free Agency unless it’s a Star like Giroux and they took Monahan so it solved a cap space problem.

I’d over pay for guys like JT Miller, Carson Soucy or Scott Mayfield knowing we could use them for this years playoffs and either flip them at next years trade deadline or that we got 2 playoff runs from them. I wouldn’t pay more than a 5th/ 6th/ 7th or B/ C Prospect for a Bottom-6 rental but that’s me and I don’t matter lol.
