*Sharks retain 50% of EKane's remaining contract.

Toronto Trades
NRitchie (San Jose)
2nd Round Pick 2022 (Buffalo)

Buffalo Trades
EKane (Toronto)
*Sabres retain 50% of EKane's remaining contract.


Hearing The Leafs are among a few Teams scouting EKane and if he is worth the gamble this proposal would get Toronto a Top LW and stay under The Cap.

so breaking down

SJ gets: nick ritchie
Buffalo gets: Merkley, 2nd
Toronto gets: Kane at 25% of his salary (between the 2 teams retaining)

while it's not a horrible trade, i'd imagine SJ would want more than just ritchie, maybe 3rd from sabres?

Problem with The Sharks trading Kane is they are in a terrible situation, they will have to basically move a top prospect and retain half his Cap to trade him in my proposal, this is when Teams take advantage of this situation, at the same time any Team taking on Kane, will of course have a Top LW but off the ice is the biggest gamble.

Or they keep a top prospect and don’t pay him 3.5M to play for another team and leave him in the minors. Maybe end up mutually terminating his contract? Not sure how that works. His value is hard to gauge because he was almost a point per game. I think if they retain 50% they get a good return in a trade.

They’re going to want a Pick or Prospect for each year they retain salary on Kane. Like @Ebsolutely said, they’re not going to pay him to play elsewhere unless they get good value in return.
