Besides Eichel's injury cap space might be the biggest problem with this.

Girard makes 5 mil/ year, Newhook and Compher both make less than 1 mil/ year. Combined the three of them make 6.833 mil. Colorado has only 23k in cap space, they'd need another 3.15 mil plus to fit Eichel's 10 mil/ year in.

It might be more appealing to Colorado if personm Kadri was going the other way instead of Newhook and Compher but Kadri has a M-NTC with a 10 team no trade list.

Buffalo said they won't be retaining any salary on Eichel either.

Compher makes 3.5M for the next 2 years. Value isn't that far off and Girard may get pushed off that blue line with Makar, Toews and Byram as the top 3 for the future.

hockeydb has Compher listed at only 925k. Looking closer I see that contract expired in 2019 but they don't list his current contract.

I looked him up on CapFriendly just now, you're right the current contract is 3.5M. That makes the cap hits closer.

Girard yeah I was thinking pretty much the same thing about him.

With the performance bonus to Newhook total will be even.

Newhook 925k + 600k (bonus)

NO retain salary
The only bet is when Eichel will play and all draft pick is around this.

The same year Erik Johnson and Nathan Mackinnon contract comes to end
Give the 6 M from EJ to Mackinnon and he will have 12.3 M to give to him. For that is not a problem.
