To Calgary : Jonathan Drouin
To Montreal : Mark Giordano, 3rd-Round Selection and Glenn Gawdin.

Dunno why either team would do this.

Montreal is strong on defense, Calgary is strong at LW. Both are UFA in a year's time. Basically it's trading Gio's cap for Drouin's with a couple sweeteners for Montreal taking on the larger cap hit. The problem is I just can't see either team wanting to take on a player making 5.5 / 6.75 mil at a position they're already strong at.

Montreal is not as strong on defence, adding Giordano would improve their defence hugely. Merrill and Gustafsson are complete dog sh** and are the kings of giveaways. And Calgary needs a goal scorer bad.

Giordano - Weber
Chiarot - Petry
Edmundson - Romanov / Kulak

Johnny Gaudreau - Elias Lindholm - Matthew Tkachuk
Jonathan Drouin - Sean Monahan - Andrew Mangiapane.

I like Gio. but I don't want to give a mid 20's asset away for a near 40 yr old .

@NotACasual Drouin isn't much of a goal scorer and Calgary needs a right shot RW anyhow, not a left shot LW. At LW he'd be playing behind Tkachuk, Gaudreau, Mangy for sure and probably Dube too.

Yeah Mangy and Dube have been playing a lot of RW for the Flames but that's only because besides Lindholm, who is best used at center, the Flames don't have even one right shot forward who's good enough to play top 6 RW.

Drouin wouldn't make the Flames better, he'd compound the existing problem of too many left shot wingers and not nearly enough right shots.
