OFFER SHEET: Sergachev (8M x 7 Years)

TEAMS: Detroit, LA, Nashville, Florida, and to a lesser extent, Ottawa

COMPENSATION: 1st, 2nd & 3rd Picks in 2021 Draft

- Nab a generational talent
- Tampa can't clear the space for he and Cirelli
- These 3 picks are a steal for a big, talented, young, Cup-winner like Sergachev. The kids is an NHL stud who isn't close to reaching his ceiling.

To the best of my knowledge, these are the only teams who have the space and their "own" picks to offer-sheet him. What a great opportunity for a GM with vision.

I don’t know if I would call him generational, but a very good player and probably worth that investment.

Detroit would be interesting because yzerman made the Drouin trade to bring Sergachev to Tampa and the wings need a D like him. Add in the rich history of Russians on the RedWings (especially in Yzermans playing time) and it could be a great fit.

Only issue is if Yzerman believes the team will take a step forward as to not give up top 3 pick with that 1st rounder.

I would think ottawa and Florida are the front runners there. I believe Detroit and l. a. might have a pick worth more than sergachev. Ottawa wants to compete as soon as they can, honestly this would bring them up from bottom team to wow, they only missed playoffs by 15 points.

Florida would look amazing with sergachev. He might be the defensive piece to give Bob his confidence back, then lookout.

Nashville might not want to invest that much in their blue line again.

Monkeyful - make some good points. I just think With Ottawa, it’s now secret that Melnyk is pretty cheap and he already paying Chabot $8M to be their top LHD. Not sure this is the investment he would make. Florida would be good for him I think. Nice pair with Ekblad.

If an offer sheet is more than 5 years, they take the total value of the contract offered (56 million in this case) and divide it by 5 to determine the compensation. So a team would be giving up 4 firsts if they offered this contract. Just thought I’d throw that out there. This would still make sense if you just changed the years to 5 or less.

LMAO you’re the 1st person who I’ve ever heard say Sergechev is better then McDavid either that or you don’t know what a generation is ( 10 year span ) if you didn’t know what a generation is then I feel bad for you. So you really think Sergechev is the best player to Slep into the nhl within the past 5 years? Laughable statement.

I remember something about that formula but couldn’t find any info to show it. Even the CapFriendly compensation calculator didn’t give that answer so I wondered if it had changed with the new CBA.

Fire is correct, that offer would be 4 1st round picks since it's averaged out over 5 years.

FIRE BERGEVIN and THE TRIPLETS: you are correct, I misread the calculator on CapFriendly. With the 5-year thing I'd offer sheet him for 8M x 5 Years, and leave the compensation at a 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

NYLANDER: I think Sergachev is generational, true. At his postion. I don't think anyone is better than McDavid. Feel better, you ol' softy? Now go skate around the perimeter while the men go into the corners to dig out the puck.

Nylander is an extremely talented perimeter player there is no denying that. Similar to Kessel in that aspect. But Sergechev is not and will never be better then Dahlin, Jones, Eklblad, Hieskanen, ETC. great player but he is not even a top 10 dman of his generation. I’d say he’s on par with a dman like Morrisey.
