With Shultz and letang both out pens get a puck mover and power play guy. Leafs get their 1B goalie. I think Barrie is a UFA so that might complicate things

Barrie is a UFA, yes. And Toronto won’t do this imo. You are giving up too much for backup goalie who is currently playing AHL.

Barrie is not resigning with Toronto. He is going to walk for nothing or be a trade deadline asset. The leafs need goaltending help NOW. Desmith is more than a back up. Capable of playing 1b and winning games. Just look what he did in Pittsburgh last season. Major upgrade. Problem is there isn't much on Toronto that would interst Pitt. Maybe kapanen.

Or they can just give a 2nd round pick? Barrie can catch a 1st and a good prospect especially if Cody Franson can lol.

Nobody going to give a 1rst tor barrie in this state and the leafs are not going to let him walk away because they really have little chance of making noise in the playoffs. He be gone before the deadline. Best case would be use that asset to get a capable goalie. Desmith is that guy. I doubt pitt can resign Barrie but he a rental for a playoff run.

If the leafs have little chance of making noise in the playoffs, who cares about a back up goalie. Keep the 3rd round pick. One game doesn’t define Kaskisuo. Who knows if they even make the playoffs, but if they do there is enough talent to do something, with Barrie.

Leafs don't get close to the playoffs without a capable second goalie. They have 0 wins front the backups. I don't think any other team can lay claim to zero wins from the second goalie. what would happen if Andersen got injured? The leafs don't need Barrie and he is leaving anyways and really the only peice that is going to get you a capable second goalie.
