to Winnipeg
Schultz

to Pittsburgh
Kulikov
3rd

both are expiring UFAs, and while Pittsburgh gets a worse player, they have shown many time that they can get bad defensemen that once showed great promise (Gudbranson, Johnson, Schultz) to play much better once they get their hands on them; they also clear up some cap space, which is hard to come by this season. Winnipeg needs better D, and they get it in this trade.

No thanks from Winnipeg. We have enough bottom pairing defenseman and giving up an asset for another bottom pairing defenseman that won't make a difference and is UFA to be is a poor use of assets.

Plus the Jets can't take on any extra cap until the Buff situation is settled.

So, this doesn't work for the Jets on any level.

its an extra 1M to the cap (4.7 vs 5.5) and the jets have enough room for buff even then.

Sorry pavs, it's still not worth giving up a 3rd for a player that won't make any difference. The Jets need top 4D, not more bottom pairing guys.

After the Buff situation is settled the Jets will either have him back or $7 plus million to go after a true top 2 d-man by the deadline. So they really don't need to give up a 3rd to take another 5/ 6/ 7 d-man, although it would be good to dump Kulikov and his salary.

Schultz would be a top 4 guy in winnipeg. I'm not a penguins fan so I must just not know enough but I always figured that was his role there as well.

No from Pens by a long shot.
