Vancouver Canucks:

- Nick Paul {39P in 43GP AHL}

- Gabriel Gagne

Ottawa Senators:

- Brandon Sutter {3.5M for 2yrs}

- Olli Juolevi

==

Vancouver sheds a little bit of cap to help them sign Brock Boeser and Goldobin.

Ottawa lacks depth and veteran leadership on their centre depth and team in general. Sutter is still a good PK and 2-way centre. He brings lots of experience that should be good for the young locker room.

Vancouver adds size to their prospect pool as Nick Paul is 6'4 230lbs and Gagne is 6'5 215lbs.

Vancouver and Ottawa exchange disappointing prospects. Gagne was a 36h overall pick in 2015 and was one of the best PF in the draft. Juolevi's potential is much higher and he's younger so for a rebuilding team taking Sutter's contract is worth it.

Both teams win. Ottawa adds to their defence prospect pool and if Juolevi turns out to be even close to what he was projected, this is a steal for them. Canucks shed salary while also adding size.

No from Vancouver. As I’ve explained twice already, the Canucks are not in a cap crunch. We have 5 mil in cap space, when we trim our roster at the start of the year that will go to 7 mil, and when we put Roussel on LTIR we will have around 10-11. The Canucks are NOT in a cap crunch, we will NOT be overpaying to move out bad contracts, stop with these trash trades and do some research before posting.

Why do people think LTIR solves all there cap problems? I’m thinking Canucks don’t make this trade but Sutter is a contract I’m sure they’d pay to dump.

Gagne went to Toronto and went unqualified, he's an UFA rn. I don't think Vancouver would do this, they’d probably rather try and trade Schaller, Beagle, etc, lower cap hits so less moving cost.
