Calgary to sign and trade Tkachuk at 7 million to the Leafs for Nylander.

Reunite him with Marner giving him additional reason to sign with the Leafs.

I’m confused, why would the Leafs trade Nylander to shed cap and then sign Tkachuk to a 7M AAV when Nylander already gets paid the exact same amount.
Toronto’s problem isn’t that Marner doesn’t want to sign with them, it’s that they don’t have the money to sign him and right now it’s just a waiting game on who breaks first. Will Marner take a pay cut to stay with the Leafs or will the Leafs trade somebody to make room for Marner.
