Even if he's older then the two other wingers, Pietrangelo is a number 1 RHD on a good contract. Even if Derbrusk and Nylander where on the same team I'm pretty sure St Louis wouldn't trade Pietro for those two combine.

Leafs laugh. Liljegren is going to be on our 1RHD for the next decade. He will be a lot cheaper than Pietrangelo, who we absoluteky cannot afford to re-sign after next year.
10 years Liljegren >>> 2 years Pietrangelo.
Trading Liljegren for two years of Pietrangelo is poor asset management. Simple as that.

Brutal for St. Louis. First of all they aren’t getting the value. Secondly they just signed bozak, traded futures and decent current roster players for O’Reilly. They made those moves to compete now. Even for a better package, trading their best dman and arguable best player (with Tarasenko) makes zero sense.

Side note: if dubas could make that trade with St. Louis, he would be an instant legend and I would say leafs are then cup favourites. Adding a RH Norris caliber Dman without losing a piece from your roster besides a back up goalie would do that. It will also never happen lol.

NHL. com has him ranked 39th overall and among top 5 RHD
Sportingnews has him ranked 41st overall and 7th RHD prospect overall.
Lastwordonhockey has him ranked 26th overall and 5th RHD overall
I think that qualifies him as one of the highest ranked prospects in the world.
Trading 10+ years of our future 1RHD away for a 2 year rental of Pietrangelo, who we definitely cannot afford to re-sign is extremely poor asset management.

The following players were ranked extremely high by writters and analyst and never amounted to be a top 30 player in thier position Also Schmaltz, Dunn, Parayko have outperformed him in AHL. I doubt he ever becomes better than parayko let alone top 5 defenseman in the league.

There are tons more, i just don't care to do the research. But all these players i mentioned were suppose to be the next great player and sadly only ekblad has hit top pair status but has never hit his ceiling.

I don’t believe I ever said he was going to be better than Parayko or top 5 in the league. You are putting words into my mouth. What I said was he is going to be our 1RHD and will be on the team a lot longer, and cost a lot less, than Pietrangelo. He is one of the youngest players in AHL, and is performing extremely well. There is absolutely no way Leafs would make this deal. Absolutely twrrible asset management.

Crazy. What's wrong with Ekblad, Meyers, Nurse, Dion?
They seem to have turned out alright and some still haven't reached their potential.
I think the over hype on Timothy is crazy here. Again, I'm a fan of the guy and have him projected as hopefully becoming a solid top 4 guy for you, in a year or two still, but no means a #1 elite stud like you're making it out. He was 17th overall. Lots of guys drafted better than 17 haven't even turned out to be an elite D man.
I guess we will wait and see if Timothy turns out to be that stud you think. Would be great for the team tho.

I’ve watched lots of liljegren with the Marlies. I think he has a chance to be a good top 4 Dman. I think elite is a stretch for sure and there’s still a decent chance he never makes a big impact at all. He’s such a curious prospect. Went from possible top 5 pick, to falling off the radar, to a mid first and then played top 4 min all season as the youngest player in the AHL, but then was very sheltered and hardly played in the Calder cup finals. Any close game he barley touched the ice in the 3rd period. Still was only 19 and that’s expected in a Dman, but I don’t have a solid read on this guy at all.

Ekblad minus injuries just hasn't been that elite top norris dman that everyone hyped him to be. There is nothing wrong with him at all. I am just trying to compare the hype that TL gets Compared to What Ek got. It is my belief that TL is being over Hyped.

Actually Klim Kostin was the youngest AHL player last year. TL is 5 days older lol. Not by much but yes they are both very young. Did he not have a contract with the Seliga or something.
