Why do people on here think that Pacioretty is some type of superstar?

Pacioretty: 2017-2018 17G 20A 37P -16, $4.5MM UFA 2019, age 29
Simmonds: 2017-2018 24G 22A 46P -16, $3.975MM UFA 2019, age 29

Both have a great history of scoring goals but Simmonds is great in the locker room, heart and soul kinda guy (beloved in Philly), will want a raise but not have a chip on his shoulder like Patches, had a better last season, and is cheaper on this contract and probably the next one too.

Keep your baby, Habs fans.

See I’m a habs fan I’ve watched a lot of patch, I don’t see how he is a “baby” to some people. He goes into the corners and battles hard, just because he’s 6’2 and doesn’t try to bulldoze his way through people doesn’t mean he’s a “baby”. Just look at big Joe he rarely runs people over is he a baby?

Pacioretty is captain man I'm sure he's not a locker room trouble.

Mike Richards was captain in philly and pronger came in as a more seasoned, proven leader and the dressing room was split a year later. That wasn’t a secret.

That situation is pretty similar to patches and Weber. Not saying it’s for sure the same thing, but also wouldn’t say just because he’s captain there can’t be trouble. I think there’s been a lot of smoke around patches being traded and they have moved out other players that have been off ice issues recently. Don’t think it’s a big stretch to think there could be some guys not getting along with him there.

We'll they voted him in as captain so if there is a problem they can all blame themselves. but we can only assume cause we are not in the room. My point was to the guy who said simmonds is great in the room. Maybe he's trouble too by your logic. but as it stands patch is a captain so that argument is pretty stupid imo.

I don’t think they “voted” patches to be captain lol they aren’t 8 year olds, the management and coaching staff pick captains haha but still just bcuz you’re captain doesn’t mean you can’t cause trouble but I’m sure he’s a good locker room guy.

It’s a bad trade. Why trade Simmonds + to get patches? Same age, same position, same term left, patches has slightly higher salary and Simmonds has had success in philly and plays there game. Makes no sense to pay extra assets.

@mcjesus, they did actually vote him captain! Lol I remember hearing it at the time and even kypreos on sportsnet made the same joke. “Why is an NHL team being run like peewee houseleague? ”

P. K. subban announces his $10 mill hospital donation the day before they voted (convenient lol) and when he wasn’t voted captain they said that was a big turning point for him there.

CTC55: I call him a baby not for his on ice play, but for all of the drama associated with that guy (contract demands, captaincy etc) . I like skilled finesse players the same as hard hitting players, so that has no bearing on my opinion of him as a player. Frankly, my misgivings with some elements of the Canadiens aside, Habs fans deserve much better than the drama-filled tire fire that is that franchise.

I think there’s some guys that just command respect and have to be the leader. That guy to me is Shea Weber. When he was 27 years old surrounded by other NHL players 18-40 years old he still looks and acts like a man among boys. When they made the subban trade for him, I thought he should have been named captain, or this paccioretty being scapegoated was inevitable. Not that Patches wasn’t doing a good job, but something about Weber tells me the guy would be the alpha in a room with chuck Norris and Steven Segal. I watched some jets coverage talking about Blake wheeler and they were saying they all thought Ladd was a great captain till he left and Wheeler took over. Wheeler is another level. I think habs fans (not you Habby) but others I’ve talked to, management and ownership are ready for a new leader.

@ Eazy E, Fair point on the drama but IMO he's behaved reasonable. It's the same with all contracts you try to get the best you can out of it, he hasn't said anything disrespectful towards the media.

Sorry for kinda pointing you out it's just I've seen so many people (on this site and on others) say he's a big baby that dives once he is touched and say he's not worth a 2nd RD pick. I just think people forget that they aren't just things they're people too and deserve some respect.
